Easy Setup and Transformer Operation

Designed for easy use, the Penn Flyer train set features a powerful maintenance-free motor. For out-of-the-box operation, it comes complete with a safe and powerful PowerMax transformer to control forward, reverse, and neutral operation. The eight curved and three straight FasTrack track pieces, along with a FasTrack terminal section, fit together to create a 40-by-60-inch oval. When you're done, everything packs up quickly and easily for storage.

Puffing Smoke and Life-Like Details

This train features a die-cast metal steam locomotive pulling rail cars decorated with bright colors and Pennsylvania Railroad logos. Its opening boxcar doors, metal rails and ladder on the tank car, and operating couplers offer plenty of realistic details. There's even a billboard with two images and a collection of telephone poles to complete your railroad scene.

Favorite features include puffing smoke, an operational headlight, and a realistic air whistle on the tender to complete the authentic look and feel of a powerful O-gauge locomotive.

The quality of this train set is outstanding. Very few things match the expectations of my childhood memories but this set did just that. I had it under the Christmas tree and it will be there for years to come.

My wife and I have been wanting to get a train set to enhance our standard Christmas decorations for several years now. We wanted a "real" train set that ran off of house current (not batteries) and was large enough to form a loop around our Christmas tree. The Lionel starter set - "The Pennsylvania Flyer" is exactly what we wanted. The "O Gauge" is a large scale model train, with each car being 10"-12" in length. I judge the quality of the set to be very high and I believe it will last many years with proper care. The track (Lionel's FastTrack) was easily assembled. Hooking up and running the train was easy and straight forward. The transformer supplied with the set is more than adequate to power the engine and cars. The train sounds great and runs like a champ.

An indication of how pleased we are with this purchase is the fact that we have now purchased additional track and cars and recently attended a model train show in the DC area. We planned to make this a Christmas decoration, but it looks like it has grown into a new hobby!

Purchased this little set for my 3 year old grandson.
Its worth the price just to see his little eye's light up when it comes around the bend.We will be adding to it in the future.
The whistle is a little weak but overall a GREAT Starter set!
