4.0 out of 5 stars A relatively short guide to Lionel Robbins' Economics, April 25, 2011

This review is from: Lionel Robbins (Hardcover)
This concise volume attempts to fill a gap in the History of British Economic Thought which the large presence of Lionel Robbins holds in the pantheon of great british Economists.

Denis O'Brien begins with a brief autobiographical essay on Robbins the man before guiding the reader through Robbins' economics and his journey to his own vision.

What is particularly central to me is the way in which Robbins was able to express himself so powerfully in words rather than mathematical symbols which so dominate the economics profession today. His ability to take a problem, apply rigourous analysis to it and be able to clearly articulate this to others is a skill, nay an art, which most economists today can only dream about.

O'Brien's tour guide casts illumination on the controversy which was generated by Robbin's development of his economic which caused such a rift between himself and his colleague hayek, a rift which eventually was healed.

This little book does provide a partial filling of the gap which exists in the History Books. Perhaps Liberty Fund might think of a Collected Works of Lionel Robbins to narrow the gap further!
