About the Author

Elizabeth Mayne is a native San Antonian who knew by age 11 the only career that would satisfy her was that of a writer. To get there she spent 25 years teaching school, making up for her own pranks on the opposite side of the teacher's desk. She particularly loves ethnic heroes and married one of her own 23 years ago. It wasn't until their youngest child was two years old that she fulfilled her dream to become published as a novelist.

She's multi-published by Harlequin Historicals and Silhouette Intimate Moments, but believes strongly in a paperless office and the internet being the wave of the future. On-line book publishing with her is more than an experiment. It's here and now as you can see by her two contributions to New Concepts Publishing, The Rose of Lorraine and Lion's Folly.

Her next paperback will be released this coming winter, The Highlander's Maiden by Harlequin Historicals. Right now she is at work creating a new fiction set in Regency England involving a war hero tormented by a friend's ghost and plagued by his fiancee's very unique sort of trouble.

". . .Release me at once!" Laura demanded.

"Release you!" I'll be damned if I'll release a criminal!" Lionel responded.

Never a criminal as fetching as this green-eyed vixen. He would go to his grave swearing fireworks exploded in her eyes. An uncommon woman, she was instinctively forward as she was beautiful.

"I'm no criminal!" Laura defended herself.

"Aye, you are. . .you've been caught red-handed committing highway robbery."

Laura kicked him viciously, trying to get away. He countered by bodily picking her up and pushing her back against the nearest tree.

She could hardly breathe as her frantic hands were caught and contained against rough bark. Outside of ineffective writhing and useless kicking of her feet, Laura was rendered helpless.

"What a vicious she-cat you are!" He chuckled, enjoying Laura's discomfort. "You need taming, my beauty."

"Let me go!"' Laura said in a desperate tone. She renewed her struggles painfully aware of how intimate his invasion was.

"Nay, I'd rather subdue you!" Laughing, Lionel twisted her wrists together above her head and his freed hand caught her jaw and held her face still.

Laura split the air with a frightened scream. Then the most horrible thing in the world happened. The man's mouth covered hers, silencing her completely. He took immediate possession, thrusting his tongue inside, stroking virgin tenderness with ruthless masculine aggression. Shocked, Laura knew not what she should do. A mewing whimper like that of a kitten sounded in her throat.

Fear evaporated in the rapid escalation of her heart. She could hear his hard drawn breath and her own frightened panting. Smelling wet earth and his lime tainted man's scent, she tasted tobacco and mint. Electrifying sensations shot through her as his tongue sought and found her own. It awoke unknown emotions within her and she filled with an urge to curl completely around him.

Nothing in his kiss bore any remote resemblance to the chaste, sweet kisses of Laura's admirers. No youth had ever captured or kissed her with such devasting intent. At once her blossoming woman's nature responded with slackening jaw and decreasing resistance.

There was no defense. She felt on fire, as heat from his kiss surged to some here to fore unrecognized center of her being.

His so forceful hand on her slackened jaw was a rough caress, allowing the continued plundering of his tongue and mouth. His hand slipped down her throat and the knowledge that he would touch her intimately became shocking reality. Her entire body launched a revolt that threatened submission.

Lionel Templeton knew when a battle was over. The young woman's resistance melted all at once and he no longer held her trapped, instead he found himself drawing her deeper into his embrace. Her body was supple and firm as it returned his pressure and her mouth was the sweetest crevice he'd tasted in years. Set out to punish and subdue a hellion, he wound up welcoming a wanton. . ."
