heard a track on college radio and thought i'd try it (sometimes it works, as it did with broken social scene, and sometimes it doesnt, as with the fall).

this CD is, in a word, stupendous. there's not a lot of range on this CD, as its mostly nedelle singing alone or with minimal accompanying musicians (shame too, the best track, good grief, explores pop sensibilities while still maintaining her irreplacable voice). but if you like one track, you'll love the CD. put it this way: picture donovan with an angelic voice, and that's where nedelle begins.

nedelle is a thing of beauty. i'm just saddened that, like a lovely sunset, there's not more people who share in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars title of review, March 10, 2005
This review is from: From the Lions Mouth (Audio CD)
This is a bit sparser than her first album. More folky, less jazzy, although she still has a great retro jazzy way of singing, which is emphasized more on this album I think. The vocal melody on the words "tell me a story" is seriously kewl. Who'd have thought you could do so much with 3 notes and 5 syllables?

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Lion's Mouth, Songs That Drop Like Kittens, February 1, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: From the Lions Mouth (Audio CD)
I heard Nedelle's song Wing Can on Global Pop Conspiracy and it was one of those approximately 46 times in my life when I immediately bought the CD (when I heard songs on the radio late at night as a thirteen-year-old, of course, "immediately" meant the next time I could get a ride to Murmur Records and then it was vinyl, not a CD, if they even HAD Scraping Foetus, so the first fourteen instances probably carried more weight because they required REMEMBERING the band or artist for at least ten hours, but - adjusted for inflation - the mere act of having to open another browser window, type in "Nedelle" and click about eleven more times to complete the purchase counts for something).
So being pretty old (vs. you), less than 50 instances of knee-jerk musical consumption makes each of them relatively meaningful in the overall scope of everything I've bought. The Nedelle CD came in the mail today and I listened to it about six times in a row and wanted to add my voice to the pile of others that have shouted out for this lady.
Then I saw that I'd be the first person on Amazon to even write a review for this CD. So there's no pile. Travesty.
It would be easy to say that Nedelle sounds like Harriet Wheeler singing Talulah Gosh in Virginia Astley's living room. It would be hard to suggest a better means of immediately improving one's life than buying this CD.
