the other listed review is about the film. giving one star to a mark isham music cd is not allowable in my book. his other cd "film music" is one of my top ten favorite cds of all time (along with with peter gabriel's "last temptation of christ"). the other review wrongly gave the soundtrack a "1" and until amazon removes the other review because it's a slam on the film and doesn't touch the soundtrack, i give it a "5" as a needed counterbalance. watch/listen to "never cry wolf" and "mrs. soffel". for my money in film soundtracks, it's john barry (james bond, the specialist, dances with wolves, indecent proposal), mark isham and dave grusin (three days of the condor, on golden pond, the firm, the cure) that i love as a backround for work, life, and play...

From the cast and from the description I was expecting a meaningful thriller. he movie was neither meaningful nor a thriller. I kept wsaiting for it to get better, but in the end the best that I could say about this was that it seemed like it was written for a H.S. project by a high school student ....the themes to be discussed by High schoolers and their teacher. If this is the case, it was very admirable for these great actors to donate their time and encouragement for this cause. For professionals it was a very bad rendition on old themes that of course are part of the awakening of young people. Tom Cruise was a poor choice for the portrayaL of the politically motivated senator. He was not believable and the part was shallow... actually the whole movie was shallow.

I thought this was a good movie. Because all the people in the movie believed in their positions. If you listened and questioned all their views, you can learn something. The two soldiers in the movie believed and honored their commitment. The treacher was who opposed to them joining the army was just as committed. If you used your brain, you'll at least learn that there are no easy answers when nations fight.
