This is a terrific collection of obscure and familiar film scores from the cream of the MGM composers. The accompanying booklet is one of the best-written commentaries I've seen outside of film music journals. The sound quality is about as good as you'll ever hear some of these nearly 70-year-old cuts, and for once, the cues are not truncated to fit the "niceities" of an album, but are presented in their entirety. Truly a wonderful set.

Normally I would skeptical when Turner/Rhino annouces one of thier soundtrack "anthologies" as they often recycle previously issued tracks. However I greatly recommend this particular set. Most of the selections have never been on CD before. The sound, often stereo, is spectacular considering some selections are over 60 years old. The CD booklet, as is usual with Rhino, is excellent. Hearing these soundtrack selections leaves me begging for more. A must for lovers of classic movie scores.

A two cd item. First disk I felt was fine... second disk ok. I have heard other albums from the "golden" age of movies & movie themes that were more interesting. For the avid old time movie buff it would be worthwile for their collection.

WOW! Packed with rarities and sounding incredibly good, this album is a film music lover's dream. There's something for all tastes here, but my favorite is a suite of themes from WIZARD OF OZ in stereo. Sounds amazing! A must have!!!
