4.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, could function better.
I have been waiting for years to purchase my ideal spice rack - this was my wedding present to myself - this isn't quite it but it was the best I came across. I got THREE of them to hold my 50+ spices - not kidding about waiting years for this. Pros - it looks really good, it's infinitely expandable, I can make them for whatever spices I have rather then a preset group of...

I love the space saving capability of this design, and the ease of access with the tins (just turn for shake or pour capability). HOWEVER - the tins are not air-tight, and the plastic cover on the tins is reactive to some spices. My cumin became encased in a plastiky mess, and the salt becomes a salt block within days. Also, due that the spices are stored on their sides, there's constantly a mess of spice-jumble on the counter under the spice tins. I still use the tins for spices that I use up really quickly - oregano, marjoram, etc.... - but have to keep a separate stock of anything that reacts with moisture and the plastic tops (trial and error). I would look into other storage options if you're not tight on space.

I have been waiting for years to purchase my ideal spice rack - this was my wedding present to myself - this isn't quite it but it was the best I came across. I got THREE of them to hold my 50+ spices - not kidding about waiting years for this. Pros - it looks really good, it's infinitely expandable, I can make them for whatever spices I have rather then a preset group of spices, and they don't take up space that would otherwise be used (I have them on the side of my fridge). Cons - the containers could be better - the spices get caught in the threads and spill a little, I'm not sure how durable the plastic cover is, and they only hold the contents of a regular sized spice container if you really push the stuff in there (thus ensuring some spill when you take the top off). For labels - you can either buy clear round labels online and print them yourself or find someone online who will do the printing for you. Overall - I wish the containers were a little better, especially for the $300+ I spent on this thing, but I did a fair amount of research and didn't come across anything better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Space saving and looks superb in your kitchen, July 17, 2009

I emptied my spice small cabinet and placed the individual containers on the side of my refrigerator. The containers along with my wall mounted knives and pot rack have opened new cabinet space in my kitchen plus the great looks and easy access to what I need have sold me 100% on the magnetic spice containers. As mentioned before, salt will not work, just use a salt grinder or another type of container. Because I placed them on the side of my refrigerator I do not need the metal board, they stick to the refrigerator quite well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks great poor functionality, August 28, 2010
This review is from: Lipper International SOHO 20-Piece Large Board Magnetic Spice Rack with Tins, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I love the look but I am unable to twist or take of the lids. Grant it my wrist is a bit sore (more sore now) however, I had my plumber try to take a lid off. He struggled and finally the herb went flying all over the kitchen. Forget about twisting the lids to shake or pour out of the slot. I tried putting olive oil on the rim just to see if lubrication would work. Any suggestions - has anyone else had this problem - perhaps I got a bad batch? Thanks,

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful except I can't reopen the lids---UPDATE, February 23, 2010

The magnetic tins work well on the side of the refrigerator as another reviewer suggested; they are handy, attractive and space-saving, HOWEVER, I can not get the lids back off the tins to refill. I've tried twisting, popping and having others try but none of us can open them again. Any tips would be appreciated.

UPDATE: Upon contacting Lipper International, they graciously offered to replace the tins. I'm thrilled because these are so handy and space-saving. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars spice rack, March 27, 2009

I really like this spice rack. I have now rid myself of the messy cupboard of spices. I could never find what I was looking for anyway. By placing this on the wall, I have created more space in my small kitchen, as well. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars, is because the design of the containers allows the spices (salt especially) to get trapped between the lid and the bottom. This is a small inconvenience for me and I would definitely recommend this spice rack to anyone with a small kitchen.

i just wanted to address the person who said why not buy the cheaper one!
i guess if you don't buy stainless steel some of the non-leafy herbs/spices can corrode the aluminum!
just found that out while doing research! def. want to buy these now!
thanks for all the reviews!

5.0 out of 5 stars Look nice, but not very easy to use, April 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lipper International SOHO 20-Piece Large Board Magnetic Spice Rack with Tins, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)

I love the way that this looks on my kitchen wall, and it gets a lot of compliments from guests. However, the containers are really not very practical or easy to use. The powder type spices work their way to between the rubber on the lid and the tin, and then when you turn the lid to use the spice, you spill spices and make a mess. That can also cause it to be hard to turn some of the lids to use. Then I had other tins that the lids were way too loose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great space saver!, November 4, 2009

I love that I was able to put all of my spices out of the shelf on the wall in a space that would otherwise go unused. The canisters seem to stay in place just fine. I have noticed that some of the spice gets caught between the canister and the lid so when you open the canister it can be a bit messier, but it is worth it to me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea Looks Awesome... Bad Quality, June 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lipper International SOHO 20-Piece Large Board Magnetic Spice Rack with Tins, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Makes a mess. If you plan on putting the spice cans on any colored metal appliances in the kitchen. ((Bad idea) the magnets are made of the soft cheap stuff. So it leaves behind dark rings of muck. So best to just use the steel panel that it comes with if your appliances are any color other than black. Also the magnets are not very strong so if you bump one get ready for a domino show one will knock of two. Two will get three till everything below the one you're messing with is on the floor. (((If you wish it to be completely vertical. This all changes if you're going with a slop or horizontal set up. But the whole point of the product for me was to put it vertical to save space.
Canisters are pretty cheaply made as well they do not screw on like you would think. They pop on. Not conducive to a long lasting design.

All in all GREAT!!! Idea... But cheap production killed it..
