Amazon Verified Purchase
If I don't take 1000mg of lysine per day (and sometimes even if I do), cold sores pop up and I'm stuck with the various creams or gels to treat them. I decided to try the Virulite because my favorite gel went off the market and I'm tired of taking so much lysine daily. So I stopped taking the lysine and sure enough - the tingling started. I used the Virulite and the next morning, no cold sore. Later that day, the tingling started again. So I used the virulite and again, no cold sore developed. I'm absolutely amazed! I hoped the product would work, but I never expected such impressive results. I'm completely off my lysine and have no cold sores. I wish I'd found this product years ago!
EDIT: Recently I had a cold with a high fever, which is usually a guaranteed cold sore. I felt the itch and noticed a bump on my lip, so I used the virulite. The itch and the bump went away almost immediately. No true cold sore developed. This happened twice over the duration of my cold. Before, I'd be treating the fever blisters/cold sores with gels or creams for over a week, but virulite took care of the problem right away. I absolutely love this product. I'd recommend it to anyone.
April 2012: Have had my virulite since August 2011. At this point, I no longer get fever blisters. I get the little tingle and maybe 1 small red dot on occasion, but no other issues. So the virulite has done its job! My lips heal themselves before a fever blister can develop!

There is real science to back up that these device really do work, because I investigated it before buying one.
The British Association of Dermatology published a paper in March 2001 to show that treatment with the particular narrowband of light that this device emits reduced cold sore healing by 50% compared to the creams alone.
And I have found in practice that these device actually perform considerably better then that.
If you use it when you feel the tingle, then most of the time they don't develop at all.
I have to admit that I was still sceptical about this device, because being a cold sore sufferer for years it seemed highly unlikely that the best solution was available on Amazon!
However, boldness definitely pays off if you are willing to take a leap of faith and actually test this out for yourself.
As another reviewer alluded to the design of this device is a little odd, because the light that it emits is invisible, and so after pressing the button and placing it too cover your cold sore you have to largely take it on trust that it is doing anything, before it beeps again.
That is a design flaw in my opinion, and it would be better if it had some kind of display to show it is actually doing something.
But all that said, the plain fact is that this thing works!
It's not a miracle cure in that I do still occasionally get cold sores, but they are MUCH LESS FREQUENT (once or twice a year as opposed to every month); and even those are much less severe and heal more quickly.
This is a really cheap price to pay for something that largely gets rid of something that is dramatically unsociable.
The guy who gave this one star should have given it more time, as he seemed to only use it twice.
My experience is that over the course of a year it easily pays for itself in NOT having to buy nearly as many of those expensive creams to treat big flair-ups. (Which are much rarer in all honesty)
The reward is DEFINITELY worth the risk (which is minimal anyway) to try out this device if you suffer from these.

I wasn't sure if this did anything at first but after getting a cold sore I did notice that it took a couple days off the healing time which made me happy. If you catch the cold sore early enough it seems to kill it but once the little blisters develop all you can hope for is that it will shave a couple days off. I think it works well in combination with a lysine regime. I'd try it and see if it works for you, it's expensive but I'd say it was worth it.
