I used Liquid Silver to repair an antique silverplated coffee urn and it really works. I suggest you first wash the item in warm, soapy water (not silver polish) and dry it thoroughly. Then apply the liquid and rub it in. Use the soft cloth provided to polish it dry. You may have to do two or three applications if the plating is really worn away, down to the base metal.

This works on very good quality silverplate - meaning plating over copper, brass or nickel. Don't think if you have a lesser quality base metal, that ANY hand applied plating system, such as this, would work - it just won't. (In that case, you need the professional acid applied system. If the silver plate is chipped or broken, most probably that item has the acid dipped method of plating, and means the base metal is not copper, brass or nickel.)

If you have the right base metal, this will work and can save you the cost of this product many times over. It is meant for silverplate that is thin or worn... not deeply scratched, chipped or broken. I read some of the negative reviews, and they were all cases where the damage was so severe that only the professional system of plating would work. Of course, this is a very reasonably priced system, so it's worth trying even on the most damaged item - but it simply isn't meant for that.

So.... I would say if you have worn flatware, trays, or other silverplated objects that have no actual physical damage such as gouges, chips or breaks in the silverplate - this is the perfect item for you! My coffee urn looks great and I am rummaging around my house looking for other pieces to restore.

This is also an excellent silver polish, and will KEEP your items looking great, as it lays down a thin coat of silver with each polish application. I really like this stuff a lot!

OK, I ordered this stuff, thinking I was basically throwing away money. I read some of the negative reviews but decided to take a chance, as I had a favorite bracelet that had sentimental value. I have held onto that bracelet for years, even though it had worn down to a coppery color on most of the sections.

I got the product and put a little on the grey "sponge" and rubbed it onto the edge of the clasp. Just waited to see what happened. Nothing. Then I rubbed it for about 15 seconds....and wow! it began to turn silver! Then it kept turning even when i did not rub. I almost cried!

I could NOT believe it. It was so easy and even though this bracelet has lots of indentions, curves, etc, the product got into the nooks and crannies and still made it silver again.

I worked on it for about 15 minutes and then rinsed the black gook off. Polished with the soft cloth. It looks brand new. Seriously.

You may not have the same results, but hey, I had a great result and now I have my favorite bracelet back. I'm a happy girl!

This product does indeed work! I purchased this to refurbish a much loved pair of dangle earrings I bought in a museum gift shop last year. I don't know what they were plated with or even what the base metal is- only that they are silver in appearance. My best guess is the base is nickel. They were severely tarnished and the base metal was showing badly. I rubbed and rubbed and sure enough it turned genuine silver! The appearance was even more stunning after buffing with a clean cloth. I intend to give them a second treatment to further improve the finish.

I also tried this product on a chrome plated bangle bracelet from Avon that I've had for several years. The silver did an ok job blending with the chrome, but was not a perfect match. It did, though, very much improve the appearance of the chipped and scratched bracelet- making it actually wearable again!

I see from experience that other reviewers could be correct in inferring that a deeply scratched item could only be covered in the thin layer of silver that is deposited. It would never fill a gouge but I think it would definately minimize its appearance.

The kit came in modest packaging, lacking any original box. The instructions on the bottle are simple to follow. Elbow grease is necessary and well worth the effort. I am a small woman with small hands so I cut the long blue sponge in half for ease of use. It is, as stated by others, of lower quality but stayed in tact for my two jobs and vigorous rubbing. I did not use the paper towel included. The gloves are handy and allow you to jump right in on your first project after opening the package. I was surprised that the gloves were latex and almost fit me, they were not the grossly oversized cheap-o kind that some times come with hair color and such.

I feel like a kid using this to spiff up all my costume jewelry. I'm so impressed by the results and how easy it is to use. I wish I'd known about this stuff years ago as I've thrown away several items this stuff would have helped make new again.

My son ordered this to use on his tarnished silver-plated saxophone. I wasn't expecting too much but he was very excitied. To my surprise he said it was wonderful! The sax looks new again! Be sure to use exactly as instructed. The results should please you!
