Liquitex offers the broadest range of acrylic mediums to inspire creativity at every stage of the painting process. Liquitex Gel Mediums add body to thinner paint for impasto techniques as well as extending color volume and adding transparency. Gels tend to dry slower than thinner paint films, allowing for more workable time. Gel mediums can modify acrylic paints in a variety of ways and since they contain acrylic resins, tend to improve adhesion and durability. Liquitex gel mediums can add texture enhance color and increase transparency within your work Liquitex Gloss Gel Painting Medium is a transparent medium which dries to a gloss finish. Viscosity and body similar to Liquitex Heavy Body Artist Color. Dries clear to translucent, depending on thickness of application. Ideal medium to mix with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Color to extend paint, increase the brilliance, and transparency of color, without changing the thickness of the paint. APPLICATIONS: AS EXTENDER: Mix with Liquitex Heavy Body Artist Color to extend volume and increase transparency while maintaining paint viscosity. Mix with Liquitex Soft Body Artist Color to extend volume and increase transparency while increasing paint viscosity. AS GROUND: Use as transparent ground for acrylic paint instead of gesso to allow substrate to be seen. To prevent Substrate Induced Discoloration (SID) wash cotton or linen canvas before use. When applying Liquitex Gloss Gel Medium to raw canvas, use adequate pressure to force the medium into the canvas, weave to insure proper bonding between the gel and canvas. FOR COLLAGE: Excellent adhesion for collage and decoupage. USING POWDERED PIGMENTS: Use as the binder for powdered pigments to make an inexpensive "student grade" Heavy Body (thick) gloss acrylic paint or achieve unusual paint films. I am a mixed media artist and had been looking for a medium that would give the flat, thick acrylic paints that I love so much an opaque, glossy sheen. I also wanted something that would show my brush strokes after it dried, and this product worked perfectly. I absolutely love it. I use it as a medium for water based paints as well as a glossy sealer for all types of paintings and mixed media pieces.
If you are a beginner artist and are looking to try some different mediums, I suggest you start with one of the Liquitex products. They are easy to mix with water based paints, and you don't need to use much at all, so you play around with different combinations and techniques until you find a method that works for you.
Great product and comes in several different sizes, as well as light, medium, and heavy, and matte or glossy.
