Fast cars, fights, sex and alcohol...,

This review is from: Liquor in the Front (Audio CD)
Best double-entendre album title ever...Liquor In The Front - Poker In The Rear. This sucker rocks hard and needs to be played loud. Sounds like The Cramps on steroids. Produced by Al Jourgensen (Ministry) it even has an industrial-rockabilly number called "Yeah, Right". All the songs are about fast cars, fights, sex and alcohol. My personal favorite is "Five-O Ford". Another fave is "Jezebel" which I would have sworn was a cover but it was written by the band. They also do a disgusting drunken version of "The Entertainer"

Though they're all good, this is probably his most popular, and best album. It rocks suprisingly hard, and I don't know of anything as good in the genre. The combo of "Big Sky" and "Baddest Of The Bad" is an excellent start. "Five-O Ford" and "I Can't Surf" are both pretty aggressive, while "In Your Wildest Dreams" is almost lounge-ish. There's also a good dose of humor running through alot of these songs, and mostly in the last track. The "Reverend Horton Heat" may be called rock-a-billy, but he's no "Stray Cats", unless you cross him with "Ministry" that is. "Holy Roller" is his "Best Of" by the way.

Smokin hot guitar jams!!,

this album jams hard, fast, and long. Incredible guitar work that rocks and swings at the same time. i love every song. Intense rockouts and some slower ballads give good balance and the humorous lyrics are entertaining. Big sky and Cruisin for a bruisin contain killer guitar playing, while In your wildest dreams chills out and is still a killer song. If you play guitar you'll definately pick up some experience points just by listening to the REV ROCKIN OUT!! Listening while cruisin down the road is a must so bring your leadfoot!!!

This music changed my life,

After I started listening to the reverend, I started drinking lots of cheap booze, going after fast women, getting myself into a drag race at every stop light, smoking marijuana, and calling in "sick" to work much more often. I love it. this is a great album, probably the reverends best (either this album or martini time).

Psychobilly Meets Industrial,
By
This review is from: Liquor in the Front (Audio CD)
First off, let's talk title. As in, title of this record. "Liquor in the Front...Poker in the Rear." Get it? I hope so. Juvenille? Yep. Sophmoric? You got it. Tongue planted firmly in cheek? You know it. But who cares?! This is the Reverend Horton Heat! He's out to burn up your house party with his unique brand of rockabilly on steroids. And that's a good thing. No, strike that. It's a great thing! We NEED this music. And Jim Heath delivers.
"Liquor in the Front" features 13 tracks produced by industrial king, Al Jourgensen. He of Ministry & Revolting Cocks fame. He brings a lil' bit of a left turn to the recording but it's still The Rev. & still amazing. Amped-up tracks like "Big Sky," "Cruisin' for a Bruisin'," and "I Can't Surf" will make your ears bleed red. While "Baddest of the Bad," "Liquor, Beer & Wine" and "The Entertainer" will make you grin from ear to ear as you polish off another gin & tonic. Thank God for Reverend Horton Heat!

If you like the Rev - Have to get this one. It's pretty much sums up the Rev in all it's glory. Funny subjects, rockabilly, but of punk, bit of rock, bit of country. As diverse as you can get. Remommended

F'ed up Ford. Oh. My god. One of the best live bands ever. This band is pure talent. I reccommend buying the Rev's albums in chronological order. But this is worth the money for F'ed Up Ford by itself.

Not for Grownups,

Just plain ol' goofy to be. It doesn't impress me at all. Especially not the "big-boy" singing voice. I've given this band more than it's share of chances. It just seems that they cater to very base following. There's nothing to write home about here. It's offensive to think that some people out there would suggest that this music is "rootsy" or even worse, "Rockabilly". My girlfriend's fourteen year old daughter likes this kind of stuff. That should give you an idea as to the depth of material and musical prowess found here. Now, I like a good punk rock song from time to time myself. It's a little guilty pleasure. And then I turn it off and giggle about how silly it is. I grew up. But if someone asks me about modern rockabilly or psychobilly this is the LAST reference I'll mention. The power is in the past. Trying to acheive that power again is impossible no matter how much reverb and distortion effects you employ. Or how well you can sound tough with the "big-boy" voice. It's comic relief I suppose.
