Lisa's Baby Sister is a book written for egocentric children who are less-than-thrilled with their mommy's pregnancy and the idea of being displaced as the center of attention by a new sibling. The story is told from the soon-to-be sister's point of view. After a lot of complaining about the arrival of her baby sister, Lisa finally decides that the new baby isn't so bad after all.

The watercolor illustrations go well with the text. I found it interesting that Lisa and her family were dog-like characters, but the visitors who came to see the baby were human.

This is a book that I would suggest for children who are truly having trouble adjusting to the idea of having a new baby brother or sister. I think that it accurately portrays many of the negative thoughts and feelings that a child may have towards a new sibling. If a child is accepting the idea of a new baby fairly well, I would not recommend the book, as some of the illustrations (Lisa fighting with her older sister) and text (Lisa playing her flute loudly to annoy her parents) might give a child ideas to behave in a less-than-desirable manner.

I love these books! This simple story is beautifully illustrated, funny and meaningful. Lisa has a new, baby sister and is not especially pleased at first. Of course it has a happy ending!
