Oil Change Socket,

This review is from: Lisle 14700 Oil Filter Wrench for GM 2.2L (Automotive)
Searched Amazon.com for an oil filter for my HHR and found one for a very reasonable price and shipping arrangement as well along with this special socket..
Yes I would duplicate this order again. The price beat all local prices on this item and all Internet Prices I searched so needless to say I made the purchase along with a few other items needed and related. The free shipping was included with the purchase of these additional items and this review will be cut and pasted to those items as they are reviewed along with one added piece of information on the special socket for the oil cap removal review. This socket is made in the USA and designed especially for removing the oil filter cap on HHR Chevrolet 2.2 and 2.4 Ecotec 4 Cylinder engines and probably will work on many other applications as the same engine is used in Saturns and Cobalts as well as other General Motors Vehicles too. It is necessary to clear the Intake Manifold and be able to fit the hex nut on the plastic top of the Oil Filter Housing Cap. It is 3/8" drive and steel and will last a lifetime as it never touches metal during its use and is worth its weight in Gold when trying to do the job without it. Regular sockets don't fit on the HHR and there is no room for large wrenches which have to be 1 1/4" to fit the cap nut so often pliers are substituted and this can crack the plastic nut or cut it or even break it because pressure has to be applied to the pliers in order for it to grip the cap. Do yourself a favor if you plan to service your own HHR etc. buy this socket and save time and accidents and possibly even engine damage due to oil leaks from a cracked oil filter housing cap. This socket and a long 3/8" drive extension and a ratchet will be all you need for the filter removal and you won't be sorry you bought it, I know I am not. As noted on the socket it is not meant for use with and impact wrench, hand wrench use only which is most commonly what you would be doing anyway in the first place for this procedure.

I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt and getting to the oil filter was a PITA. With this filter wrench I'm able to access and filter and not have to worry about getting a wrench in the small area and possibly stripping the thread on the filter. VERY recommended for Ecotech/Cobalt owners!

I have a 2010 Chev Equinox 2.4L - 4 Cyl. Changing the oil filter can be difficult. However by using this socket the job is easily done and without a mess. A great tool.

I struggled trying to get the oil filter canister off of an '08 Cobalt using a Cresent wrench (didn't have a big enough socket). I found this socket and attached it to an extension, and I had the canister off in a matter of seconds. What a time saver!

A must for changing oil filters in a Ecotec engine, the low profile socket makes the job much easier.

This is exactly what I needed to remove the oil filter on my 2009 pontiac G6 with a 4 cylinder engine. Made the job very easy and gave me a better appreciation for the drop in oil filter.

This fits perfectly for changing the oil filter in my 2010 Chevy Malibu. It's just a socket so I do not expect much more from it than that.

It's a Big, metal, low-profile oil filter socket that my 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T requires. Coupled with a 6 inch or longer extension, it's an easy job. Socket size is 1-1/4 inch (per markings) or roughly 32mm socket. LOW profile makes it easier to work with given the limited space above the oil filter cap. Fits 3/8 inch rachet sets.
Drove up on the Blitz Rhino Ramp 8000 (cheaper locally at pep boys) and was able to complete the oil change quickly.

This oil filter wrench works perfect for my Chevy HHR. When I first bought the car I could not find a proper tool to take the oil filter cap off.
Then I found this wrench. Nothing more to say, other than it fits perfectly and does the job as advertised. It paid for itself the first time I used it with the money I saved vs. taking it to a shop to get the oil changed. Because of how tight the space is (referring to the HHR) I would recommend getting a couple extensions for your ratchet. With two extension pieces my ratchet (and my hand) were above the engine itself when unscrewing the oil filter cap. |
