Two thumbs up, June 19, 2010
This review is from: Lisle 40210 Green 3/8" Magnetic Socket Holder (Misc.)
Sockets have been the bane of my existence. No matter how carefully I put them down, they seem to end up rolling around on the floor or in the toolchest. I used to waste a good 5-10 minutes per task simply sorting through them to find the right one. Given some of my projects would require 3-4 different socket sizes, this chewed up time. I tried the vertical plastic holders sold at Sears; these are the types where you drop the socket on a stick. Fail. The sticks would break off, deep and large-diameter sockets wouldn't fit properly/securely, the whole tray would slide around and they weren't really portable.
This tray has solved my problem. There's a long magnet underneath the tray to hold the tray to the toolchest or other metallic surface. There's a magnet at each socket slot, holding the socket in the slot. First, the bad news: they really are green, the green is an ugly fluorescent green and they are designed for graded sockets. Basically, you can't put 10 24 mm deep sockets in them and they don't look pretty. Now, the good news: the magnets are strong, sockets fit, hex bits fit, torx bits fit, there's a carrying handle and they are fairly rugged. I turned them upside down and shook them pretty vigorously and couln't get any of the sockets to fall out.
Overall, A+.

Best socket holders ever, August 12, 2011
This review is from: Lisle 40210 Green 3/8" Magnetic Socket Holder (Misc.)
I've tried a number of different methods for holding sockets: the tiny metal clips-on-bars, loose in small toolboxes, and the useless box that the socket set came in. These magnetic holders are by far the best solution: the sockets never fall out by mistake, the sockets are easy to grab with greasy hands, and you can replace the sockets with a single hand, almost by feel (important when your head is still under the car ;-) I use red for standard, and green for metric, and a complete set of 3 (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2) will fit nicely in a standard 26" tool chest drawer.

Solved my tool storage issues, February 11, 2008
This review is from: Lisle 40210 Green 3/8" Magnetic Socket Holder (Misc.)
I bought a nice socket set on clearance a few years ago and the sockets just kept rolling around my cabinet. Finding a specific size was a tedious task for a simple job like an oil change.
This solved my organization problems...which means I can buy more tools. YAY!
Strong magnets to hold sockets in place, and strong magnet on the back to hold the unit where ever you want...even vertically on the side of my metal tool cabinet.
