As another commenter mentioned, these pliers are a specialty tool, not designed for snap rings that have holes for pins to fit in. These were exactly what I needed to get the lock rings off the mainshaft of my transmission during a rebuild. I tried many times to make due with the more common pin style snap ring pliers, which didn't have enough surface area or strength to get the rings off. Tried to improvise w/ other tools, with limited success. Once I grabbed these, they came right off, and went back on quite easily.

The right tool for the right job makes all the difference!

I am rebuilding a VW-based dune buggy, and being my first VW I have had to acquire a few new tools from time to time. I've a full set of lock-ring pliers, but the circlips on the CV axles were giving me fits. Rather than grind down some poor unsuspecting old needle-nose, I decided to shop a little on Amazon to see what other options at what prices were out there. These arrived a couple days later, and within minutes I had re-installed both of the CV joint circlips on the passenger-side axle.

These pliers are well built, the knurled tips are pronounced and deep, and the added "L" shape to the tips has turned out to be more useful than anticipated. Circlips do not budge one gripped in the pliers for installation, and removal comes easy with the extra force these give you confidence to use. If I somehow broke this pair, I would buy another, immediately.

You seldom need this tool, but when you do, there really is no substitute. I needed one for bicycle work, and so had looked unsuccessfully in local stores. Fortunately, Amazon had several to choose from, although the tool descriptions were not as useful as I hoped. This pliers is lightweight, solidly built, comfortable in the hand, simple to use, and relatively inexpensive. I did need a smaller tip, so I ground this one down a bit to make it more suitable for my purpose.

For some reason Amazon doesn't list where these are made but I called Lisle and they are in fact made in the US, just the same as the OTC version. And half the price!

These are just what I needed to finish disassembling my transmission, they worked great on the first try, which is notably better than what I was attempting before, with two flat-head screwdrivers and snap-ring pliers.

Works great on transmission clips or any other lock rings. If you encounter these types of rings with any frequency, do yourself a favor and just buy this tool instead of trying to hack through it with circlip or needle nose pliers in an attempt to save money. Time and money saved, no more lost rings flying across the garage behind some workbench or spending an hour trying to get a ring on or off. Makes it a 10 second job

Fast shipping. I've always liked Lisle products and these are no exception. For the first time had to tear into a transfer case, these lock ring pliers really came in handy. They aren't absolutely necessary, but it sure is nice to have the right tool for the job.

With only knurled flats instead of prongs that can fit right into the eyes of snap rings, you cant get a very good grip on the ring. Usually it will just twist and pop right out of the pliers. Not happy with them, should've went with a different design.
