5.0 out of 5 stars Great value - don't hesitate to buy!
This was a great buy. The build quality of the tool is excellent - the Lisle tool is made in Clarinda, Iowa. The mechanism for retaining the sockets works very well, and the slots on the socket fit the tie rod snug - not too tight, not too loose. The tool accepts a 1/2" socket drive. The only tool I found that was comparable in price was from Harbor Freight. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid
Solid, serviceable tool and nothing more. No bells and whistles with this one. It's also easy to accidentally unlock the crowfoot while removing the tie rod. Overall a good value; will probably last for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes quick work of inner tie rods, February 3, 2006
This review is from: Lisle 45750 Inner Tie Rod Tool (Automotive)
Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference. Inner tie rods are easy to install and straight forward. You simply identify the wrench flat you need, place it on the inner tie rod, slide the tool on and close the band to lock it in and your ready to loosen or tighten. I didn't like the quality of the band though, mine was a little too loose and may not hold up long term. Lisle make allot of specialty tools and is a name you can count on. This is a solid investment if your beginning in the mechanical field or will replace several tie rods to justify the expense.

4.0 out of 5 stars For my application, needed slight modification, but well made and I recommend it, June 27, 2010

My Pathfinder used the largest of the included wrenches, so apparently the tie rods are on the large side. The tube was slightly too small for the tie rod to fit in the tube. This was corrected with some grinding to make the tube slightly larger inside. Then the tool worked perfectly. I'm torn between giving it five stars and 4 stars. I would not hesitate to recommend this tool, just if you have a vehicle like mine, you may need to modify it. slightly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same tool - Lower price, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Lisle 45750 Inner Tie Rod Tool (Automotive)
Lisle tools are sold off of the tool trucks, but at full price plus.
This is the same Lisle quality tool, but much more affordable.
Shrink wrapped to a card - no storage case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job, February 6, 2011

I initially bought the Lisle Universal Tie Rod tool from a local auto parts store, only to find that it did not fit over the end of the tie rod in my 99 Altima. I returned that one and bought this one from Amazon. Removal and installation of the new tie rod was easy with this tool. If you're trying to decide between the two, go with this one (or the similar Harbor Freight one). It's worth a little extra money to know it will make the job easier instead of harder!

When I ordered this tool, I did not see that the size crow foot I needed was not included. Make sure of what you need before you order. The tool is well made and seems to be some thing that will stand the test of time. They have all the sizes you need, just order them to begin with.

Two different local mechanics quoted me over $500 to change a single rusted tie rod in a 2000 Honda Civic. One of them tried to convince me that it was a very difficult repair, and even implied that I would have to remove the steering rack. WTF??? Anyway, after a bit of research, I decided to attempt the repair myself. I'm not a pro mechanic, and it was my first attempt at a tie rod replacement, but with the this tool, it was actually a fairly simple job that took less than 2 hours. Even with the cost of the tool, the tie rods, and my personal 'shop rate', I figure that I saved about $250.

It does what it is supposed to do very well. A bit pricey, but then it is a specialty tool no shade-tree mechanic should be without. Used on 2001 Sable successfully.
