This is simple and EXCELLENT product. Made in the USA. The actual dimensions are missing in Amazon's description. The pads are 4" long; they drop 1" down the jaw and overlap the top by half inch. See the uploaded pictures. The magnetic strips (under the half inch top overlaps) are not meant to be very strong, they only prevent the pads from falling while opening the vise to remove objects. These magnets are easy to clean of steel debris. These aluminum pads would not be for continuous usage; they are specialty tool designed to hold in place rounded or spherical objects and they do it very well.

This works just fine, but depending on your vise jaw size you may need to jury rig it to make it fit well.

I ran into the problem some of the other reviews describe. The jaws didn't sit well in the vise. Looking at it, the problem was that the jaws on my small-medium vise were pretty small. This made the grip point too low so when trying to use the vise pad, the pads would angle in and not work well.

The solution to this was pretty straight forward. Using a few bits of metal that happened to be exactly the same size I boosted the height of the pads by 3/4". You can use stacks of pennies or wood or whatever as long as they're the same height on both sides. What you want is to get the "V" notches centered top to bottom in your vise pads.

Then because the metal scrap I used to lift the pads prevented the magnets from doing their thing with the vise, I needed to secure the pads to the vise to make sure they wouldn't keep falling off every time I moved the barrel in and out of the pads.

Duct tape to the rescue. Really. It's not as ugly as it sounds. Lift with the spacers, a bit of duct tape to neatly secure the top of the pads to the vise and the rest works just fine.

Could they make all sorts of sizes for these pads so you could buy ones fitted to your vise? Sure, but would we really want to pay more for a pair of aluminum pads for that convenience?

4 stars from me. They did what I needed them to do.

There is really only one thing I do not like about these soft-jaws. The jaws do not meet flush at the top. Where they meet, there is a channel about 1/4 inch deep the entire length of the jaw. If you want to clamp something small, you have to figure a work-around. Otherwise, I like them, and they are made well. The magnets seem to be strong enough and the pre-drilled holes for clamping round objects work well, as long as the object is not too small.

A car guy would find these more useful that a jeweler or gunsmith.

Of all the vice jaw's Iv'e used or owned, these work exceptionally well, especially for round stock and spheres.

Magnets hold jaws in place, no fumbling. Softer or matched material of the material I need some "give" to. Different steps and notches will hold small parts in place. Great purchase for the home mechanic / D.I.Yourselfer.

The entire unit is fairly small but seems to be well built. I'm using it for clamping an AR-15 barrel to remove the flash suppressor and eventually the gas block and I'm confident it will serve the purpose so remember, if you're not trying to clamp something that's going to take 200 to 300 lbs. of torque then this will work for you!

The Lisle 48000 vise jaw pads are nicely made of aluminum. They are made in the USA, and have been tumbled to remove all burrs or sharp edges. A perfect fit on my 4 inch bench vise. The V-grooves appear to be machined, and they seem to be parallel and square to the jaws. The grooves have a 120 degree angle (rather than the more common 90 degrees) so they can grip hexagonal bar stock perfectly. The grooves are sized to grip round objects from 1/4 inch to about one inch diameter. As other have mentioned, the channel at the top of the jaws inhibits clamping of very small parts (less than 1/4 inch). But the channel is very convenient for holding flat bar stock (or even small pieces of sheet metal) parallel to the jaws. This feature is very handy for use with a drill press vise when you need to drill holes that are perpendicular to the workpiece. The magnetic strips do not grip very aggressively, but they are adequate to keep the jaw pads in place. Overall, the nicest soft jaws that I have seen or used.

The jaws are ok but the magnets are trivial. They fly off at the slightest nudge. I think I'll remove the magnet tape.
