The A-List books are certainly addictive, with all the glitz and glamour of its rich kid stars' fabulous lives. However if you ask me, Dean's writing leaves a lot to be desired, and can not possibly compare to that of Cecily von Ziegsar, who, as I'm sure you all know, produces the East Coast version of the A-List. Gossip Girl packs a punch, always. The A-List falls a...

The A-Listers return for a Hollywood-style prom in their sixth book --- but you won't find cheesy matching dresses, flowers and cummerbunds here. It's couture all the way for a prom that will be on the film set of Sam's father's remake of Ben Hur.

Romance is in the air with a lot of doubts and insecurities. Anna is conflicted about Ben's return for the summer. She's so happy to be able to spend real time with him, but what's up with family friend Maddy who's living in his house now? Maddy is a formerly obese girl who came from the Midwest for a stomach stapling and lifestyle makeover. She's sweet as candy, but she does seem to have a crush on Ben. Still, after everything they've been through, Anna can trust him, right?

After she gets a chain belt with Adam's initials dangling as charms, Cammie has a big fight with him. He thought she asked him to help investigate the mysterious disappearance of her mother, but when he does, she's not ready to handle it --- or the fact that Adam knows about it too. Things come to a head on Prom night when everyone else is enjoying a magical evening. Can this odd couple stay together?

Dee gets a leave of absence from her hospital for Prom and immediately falls for Ben's Princeton roommate, Jack. She is sane and together for the first time in a long while, but there is something about Prom that gives these two an unforgettable blind date.

Sam hates the idea of Prom. When she finds out about a documentary contest, she decides to offer a snarky look at how ridiculous it really is. When she starts meeting with the prom committee girls, she thinks that making fun of them and their silly event will be so easy. But when one location has a fire, Sam begins getting more involved. While busy saving Prom, she continues her hot romance with Eduardo. It's too bad he can't come to the big dance, so she's taking her friend Parker, who looks really good in his tux and is so nice. Sam grows tired of worrying if Eduardo likes more sophisticated women and drinks too much at the after-Prom party, which leads to appreciating Parker too much.

There is plenty of romance and intrigue in this book, but some of the best parts of this series are when the gal pals work together. The young women generously team up here to make over Maddy for her own fabulous prom. That scene will make fashion lovers drool as the ladies are fitted with luscious designer wear that readers will covet. SOME LIKE IT HOT has plenty for A-List fans to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...Drama never seems to end :), June 3, 2006

"I don't like being alone."

Some Like It Hot was one of Zoey Dean's best books. All of her books are great and make you want to keep turning the pages, but this one was especially filled with drama. Since she is a very creative writer who knows exactly what teenage girls want to read. I have pictured the whole story in my head for every book of hers I have read written from her and finished them within two weeks. Everyone of her books has meaning to it and teaches life lessons.
In all six A-List novels, Sam is a fat and very insecure girl, and the author does a good job making the point that you can be "fat" and "beautiful" at the same time. Sam doesn't think a guy will be attracted to her and fears that they will use her to get to her dad who is a big time movie director. She feels this way because she has been used many times in the past.
Some Like It Hot, begins at the point when Sam and Eduardo have been long distance dating for almost a year. Since Sam lives in Hollywood and Eduardo lives in Paris they only get to see each other on a few vacations. Luckily Eduardo will be in town for Sam's prom, but at the last minute he can't go with her. Sam asked Parker to go to prom with her instead and Eduardo found them making out at her after party. I thought that it was thoughtful of Eduardo to surprise her, but I can see it wasn't a good idea. I didn't like that he just showed up without calling. I wondered if just Eduardo didn't trust her or if he showed up because he wanted to be with her. I'm actually kind of glad that Eduardo caught Sam kissing Parker because she was actually the one who kept picturing Eduardo with other girls in their long-distance relationship. I see that Sam needs to realize that it's bad for her to be picturing Eduardo with other girls, as if she wasn't worthy of his loyalty.
If Zoey Dean writes another book, I hope that Sam and Parker end up getting together because Parker really cares about Sam. He's always by her side, and has encouraged her movie making interest.
This book reminded me of the TV show "Laguna Beach" because there's so much drama that never seems to end; Kristin and LC fought over Stephen, and Eduardo and Parker both like Sam in Some Like It Hot.
Zoey Dean is trying to show that you should realize the people who are your real friends are and be grateful you have them. She also shows that insecurity and low self esteem negatively affect relationships. I see that Sam needs to realize that its bad for her to be picturing Eduardo with other girls, as if she wasn't worthy of his loyalty. I really liked how Zoey Dean put these real life issues in Some Like It Hot because these problems do happen to teenagers today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, December 17, 2011
In this sixth installment of the A-list the story of the young and rich, Zoey Dean's focus is mainly on prom. Overall this book is a great read; it has a great plot and wonderful storyline. Each character has his/her own little story happening inside this one. It does start out a little bit slow in the beginning but then it picks up.

In the beginning none of the wonderful A-list really even consider going to prom. They are all so above it. Sam however starts to consider it when Anna states that she wants to go. Then when Sam finds out about a documentary contest, which would be perfect to showcase her talents. She sets her sights on making prom happen and getting her A-list friends to go.

Anna seems to have it made in this one or so it seems. Ben is home for the summer and they finally settled on an honest relationship. Even better than that Ben is taking her to prom but could this very attractive and very curvy family friend that is living in Ben's house cause new problems? Who knew perfect Anna had so many insecurities.

There is a new side of Cammie shown in this book as the mystery of her mother's death unravels slowly. The question is will she take it out on Adam because he's the one who found the truth?

Dee gets a night pass from Ojai Psychiatric Institute for the prom she's still an inpatient there being treated for bi-polar. We see a brand new Dee in this book. Could it really be that Dee is actually normal now?
Dee goes to prom with Ben's friend from Princeton, Jack and they find they have some scary reality in common. There only issue is how they are going to ditch her chaperone from the institute, Marshall.

After the Bel-Air Grand Hotel burns down thanks to one of our not so good girls. She didn't do it on purpose and she actually feels guilty for once, which is quit shocking. There is mad panic about getting another venue for prom. Sam steps in and takes over getting her father's movie set for Ben-Hur. She pretty much saves the day for the prom weenies as she calls them. Only problem is now Eduardo can't take her to the prom. So she goes with Parker as a friend...or at least that's what they said.

This book had all the drama and glamour and designer dresses that all the other had. However there wasn't as much cattiness in this one which isn't necessarily a bad thing but some readers may miss this. Like I said before it started a bit slow but then it picked right up and I was sucked right into the story. The biggest thing that kept me intrigued was the mystery of Cammie's mother's death. Another great scene that will capture everyone is prom prep, when all the girls work together to help one less fortunate girl.

A definite must read in the series!

I love the A-List books, however this one took a bit of time to heat up. In the beginning, the dialog was not to be desired, and the story moved to slowly. Not to worry, because near the middle of the book, everything got better. I leave the book details to the other reviewers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Like It Hot, February 10, 2008
A Kid's Review
Troubled romance is in the air, Ben is coming back for the summer. Who is Anna's true love or at least that what's she though. Anna discovered that Ben has a family friend coming to stay with them over the summer. Her name is Maddy, she was obese but had come to the Midwest for a stomach stapling and lifestyle makeover. She's a very sweet and kind person, but Anna can't tell if Maddy has a crush on Ben. But you would think that after what Ben and Anna have been through, Ben wouldn't dare have feelings for Maddy, right?

The Fiction book Some Like It Hot by Zoey Dean continues the saga about the fast time of Hollywood and its rich and fabulous people. Sam is an obese girl but shows the world that being "fat" and "beautiful" is fabulous. She's dating Eduardo who lives in France. But Parker had a little thing for Sam. Anna and Ben are a couple, or at least until Maddy moved into Bens house.

I personally loved this book it was very fast paced, it also had a lot of twists involving Eduardo and Sam and Cammie and Adam. Its one of those books that once you pick it up you just can't stop it leaves you asking for more. I would recommend this book for girls 13-17.
Zoey Dean is trying to show that you should realize the people who are your real friends are and be grateful you have them. She also shows that insecurity and low self esteem negatively affect relationships. I see that Sam needs to realize that it's bad for her to be picturing Eduardo with other girls, as if she wasn't worthy of his loyalty. 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, interesting read!, August 5, 2007
Zoey Dean is back with her sixth book in the A- List series. In this book, it's Prom at the Beverly Hills High School and noone on the A- List goes, but when Sam hears about a film contest, and when Anna wants to go, she decides to go and make a video on the prom weenies b- listers. Also Anna gets jealous of a gorgeous junior staying at Ben's house for school, but she gets over it and she and her friends help for her prom. At Anna's prom everything goes a little too well and Sam decides not to release her film because she's to happy and was awarded prom queen. Cammie on the other hand a horrofying secret that her father had an affair with Sam's mother during the time of Cammie's mother's death. Zoey Dean is back with her probably best book so far in the series, leaving her fans dying to read the next book. I would definitely recommend this book and this series.
