This is the best Barry Harris's album. He was and still is a poet of the sound. The sound of bebop that no longer can be heard in modern pianists. "Listen to Barry Harrs"is a must if you love this musician. However, this cd is a must if you love jazz as well. As a Jazz player I can say that this performance diplays the genious of one of the greatest Jazz pianists ever.

Whether you are a jazz enthusiast in general or have a consummate interest in jazz piano in particular, you'll come away from this solo performance by Barry Harris with a feeling of delightful satisfaction. The superior prowess of this bebop torchbearer is evident in his touch, his interpretations, choice of voicings, harmonic movement and the effortless virtuosity with which he delivers his ideas.

Barry taps into his vast musical storehouse and holds the listener's interest with expressive improvisations that clearly display his range. The song selections go well together and are great opportunities for the pianist to showcase the simplicity, complexity and beauty of the bebop jazz style.

Ascension, a tune that is reminiscent of Parisian Thoroughfare, is performed in a straight-ahead, bold, jaunty manner that is at times playful, and very much in the tradition of Bud Powell. The songs Londonderry Air, I Didn't Know What Time It Was and Sphere are among my favorites for the lyrical treatment they are given.

This album is truly an enjoyable listening experience, and in the hands of Barry Harris, an acknowledged legend and master teacher, it provides an insightful education for the avid jazz student as well.

Barry Harris's music is so intricate and rich. I can listen to him playing solo on this album over and over again.
