I heard Blue Kiss one afternoon on my fav jazz station in transit and you know they hardly ever say the name of the songs or the artist on those stations so needless to say I ran straight to the store and sent everyone in that record store on a mad hunt for the CD based on my own rendition of the melody. It was worth the embarrassment hehehe. I found it and I love it! I couldn't stop listening to it once I got home. This is my first Chuck Loeb CD and it won't be my last.

I'm fairly new to Chuck Loeb's music, but I think "Listen" is going to prove to be my favorite among all his CD's. This CD is fantastic for a bunch of reasons: a really nice variety of tunes, excellent sidemen, and fantastic arrangements. Loeb's gentle, understated rendering of Russell Ferrante's composition "Geraldine" is absolutely beautiful and keyboardist Mike Ricchiuti has the most wonderful touch on this tune. But the great thing is that on this same album you also get the fun, Latin-flavored Chiringita and the fantastically uptempo and fun "Right Down Broadway" with Mitchel Forman smokin' on keyboards. This latter track really shows off the jazz talents of all involved. The only thing I don't really like about this CD is the slowed down version of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You." That tune just doesn't seem like it should be played that slowly. But apart from that, this is one fantastic CD. Betcha after the first time you hear it, you'll have to press repeat!

His style, in my opinion is comparable to that of the late Wes Montgomery. Unhurried in his approach on tracks such as, "Silver Star", "Geraldine", and "Blue Kiss." Speaking of "Geraldine", (Spyro Gyra are the originator's) this track continues to evoke emotions of bitter sweet nostalgia within me after all these years. I'm sure the members of Spyro Gyra would agree that Chuck Loeb does justice to this particular track. If you're into reflective and thought provoking music, I'd say to you, "Buy it."

Chuck Loeb is a total pro. He plays superbly. His sidemen & women are first rate. The tunes are cool. The arrangements are excellent. If you like refined, professional, smooth work with a hip feel, you'll like this CD.

Chuck Loeb as a guitarist is phenominal. However I don't feel that he did his very best with "Listen." Chuck's other music is very red-hot [you'll like track #4], and "Listen" includes a few upbeat tempo tracks as well as some more 'sappy' tracks [like the title track] that most performers have to throw in there. Track #2, "High Five" will stick in your head all day. What I like about Chuck's music is that you can actually whistle the melodies. This album could use some more help in the percussion area, it sounds like most of the tracks are drummed on a percussion machine. He does get some help from Bob James on the title track, which is nice. All in all, if you want something to settle you down in traffic or pop in when visitors come over, this is a great album.

listen has some nice melodies and grooves but falls too much into the smooth jazz cd101.9 format. i know that we all have to pay our bills , but chuck is better than this, not up to par as magic fingers, life colars, or balance! i hope chuck doen't stay here long! with that it's still a much better cd than most in this gendre, chuck should check out billy eric they have a lot in common!

Superb guitar work on this album! Tight, tasteful, flashy where it works... The tunes are varied, there's plenty of that smooth jazz style along with some great rhythm. A first-rate group of musicians and a great album.

This is great guitar smooth jazz music. There is a small amount of vocal music that fits well with the relaxing pleasureable sound of Chuck Loeb's smooth guitar playing.
