About the Author

Thomson Smillie has spent his entire working life promoting, producing and directing opera and opera companies in the British Isles and the Americas. He began with Scottish Opera and has been artistic and/or managing director of the Wexford Festival, the Opera Company of Boston and for 16 seasons Kentucky Opera in Louisville. In addition to an active career as a stage director he has a dream later-life vocation: lecturing on opera aboard some of the world’s most luxurious cruise lines including Seabourn, Silverseas, Regent and Crystal. He writes a monthly arts column and features for Louisville Magazine and broadcasts a radio version for WUOL. He has four children, four grand-children, was widowed eight years ago and is happily remarried to Marilyn Meredith with whom he shares travel and life’s adventures.
