Listen To Rare Earth

A Listmania! list by Michael King "Mike" (Taunton, MA United States)
The list author says: "Rare Earth began as the band the Sunliners in Detroit. In 1961, the group included Pete Rivera (Peter Hoorelbeke) on lead vocals and drums, along with Gil Bridges on saxophone. John Parrish joined on bass guitar in 1962. Rod Richards on guitar, and Kenny James on keyboards, joined them in 1966. The band changed their name to Rare Earth in 1967. In 1968, they released their debut album, entitled "Dreams/Answers," on the Verve label. The album didn't sell well, and Rare Earth switched to Motown Records. Their debut album for Motown Records was released in 1969. Entitled "Get Ready," the album peaked at #12 in Billboard's album chart. The single "Get Ready" peaked at #4 in 1970. Rare Earth's last top 40 single was "Warm Ride," which peaked at #39 in 1978. Various versions of Rare Earth released the albums "Different World" in 1993, and "A Brand New World" in 2008. For the 2008 album, Rare Earth included Gil Bridges (saxophone, flute, vocals), Floyd Stokes, Jr. (drums, lead vocals), Randy "Bird" Burghdoff (bass, vocals), Ivan Greilich (lead guitar, vocals), and Mike Bruner (keyboards).
