Those people who did that "Roxette" song,

Chances are you know D.H.T. as "those people who re-did that Roxette song". That's certainly the way I was introduced to this Belgian duo of Edmée Daenen and Flor Theeuwes, and I instantly loved their cover of "Listen to Your Heart".
This upbeat Euro-dance pop team comes to us compliments of Robbins Entertainment, the people who brought us D.J. Sammy, with his hot version of Bryan Adams "Heaven". Unfortunately, the album doesn't have more tracks like the infectious lead off single, and although their ballads are quite good, I was looking for more dance and trance tracks. Other good tracks are "I Miss You" (trance); "At Seventeen" (pop); and "Someone" (ballad). A nice mix of pop, trance and ballads, and certainly a good choice for fans of Euro music. Anticipated this one...sort of let down...,

As others have mentioned, it's not an all out dance disc. And it's also not the level of dance I'd have hoped for based on the lead-off single. While the style reminds me of Lasgo (and so does the vocalists voice), few tracks live up to that energy level of vocal trance like "Listen to You Heart"-only "I Miss You" gave me what I had hoped for. If you're looking for a disc loaded with that Lasgo and Ian Van Dahl sound, check out the recently released CD "Closer by Milk Inc. It's astounding.
Here's the breakdown of dance tunes and ballads: Dance tracks: Listen to your Heart (but you also get the unplugged version) At Seventeen remake (it's a commercial house track, not trancey) I Miss You (gorgeous trance) I Can't be Your Friend (happy dance) Sun (happy dance-annoyingly so) Why (aggressive, darker house track) Depressed (very moody and dark trance track) Ballads: I Go Crazy remake Someone Driver's Seat remake (disappointing-I'd love to hear a dance version of this) My Dream

even better than I'd expected.....,

D.H.T. had many previous singles released overseas before releasing this record in the United States. Many of their previous singles followed the trend of this hard-house intense style, which in my opinion didn't sound all that well. But with buying this album, I took a gamble, only having heard a few songs. But to my surprise, I love this cd, not only is it not made in that "hard-house" style, it has many varieties of styles which keep the flow of the album interesting. Overall, it kind of reminds of me of Ace of Base's sophomore album "The Bridge" (which also mixed many styles onto one disk).
the best songs on this album in my opinion are the lead single "Listen To Your Heart", which I'm sure everyone's heard by now. the euro-dance style cover of Janis Ian's "At Seventeen"; The trance infused "I Miss You" which follows the sound of fellow Belgian dance acts such as Ian Van Dahl, or Sylver. My absolute favorite song is "I Can't Be Your Friend" which is trancy with a slight hint of euro-dance, it almost reminds me of "Feels Like Heaven" by Camino featuring Jeanna; and finally "Why" which sounds a lot like a song you would hear on Lasgo's debut album, "Some Things." I've anticipated the release of this album for quite some time, and it is totally worth the wait, it does not disappoint.

Impressive Combination of Ballads & Dance Tracks,
By Allen Common "Allen Common" (Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews

At first - I thought this album was filled with covers after hearing: Listen to Your Heart, At Seventeen and I Go Crazy. However, the stand out performances are the original work. The ballad, My Dream (track 8) addresses not having a war and how ironic that is with Iraq today. The two dance tracks I personally enjoy are Depressed and Why.

Not quite what I expected,
This review is from: Listen to Your Heart (Audio CD)
I bought this CD thinking it would be mostly dance music, like their single "Listen to Your Heart". After listening to all the songs, I was kind of disappointed. There are a few dance songs, but most of it is a little slower. The music is still great, but don't buy it expecting to have upbeat tempo trance/dance type music.

What D.H.T has going for it... and against it,

Lacking lyrical gusto not withstanding, this album offers a bit of a feel good rush. The covers are done well... "Listen To Your Heart" is a moving rush as a dance track and hauntingly sad with just a piano and the lead singer as the bonus remix featured on the album. "At Seventeen" is a bitingly harsh look at teenage life with some rather thought provoking lyrics that make you wonder if the beauty who is singing them really can relate to whom they were intended for. "Drivers Seat" offers a deliciously intriguing verse followed by a dud of a chorus. What is the point of the Drivers Seat... is it just there or is it supposed to offer some odd devine direction... the song left me wanting more of the flow that the verses offered. "I Can't Be Your Friend" is a humerous look at wanting to advance to the next step and it is set to a catchy beat that makes the car shake. "My Dream" is poetic but offers no symbolic solution. The dream is lovely and a sign of the times, but the realisim of it is lost in the shuffle of silly rhyming. "Sun" while having the makings of being another annoying "Macarena" hit, is a catchy fun song. The words are meant to take you nowhere... just to get you grooving. "Depressed" is just the message our youth needs today... (not really) as the song is almost blatantly about killing yourself to "end the misery" and again you are left wondering if the lead singer relates or just sings the words.
All in all, the album is feel good fluff with some fairly decent vocals and catchy beats and melodies. I find it amusing that the covers are the best songs because face it, the writing on the origional songs could use a bit of development. Still, it is a decent album... although I do wish it was longer.

By
This review is from: Listen to Your Heart (Audio CD)
This Album has a great mix & variety of songs and music - some ballads(acoustic & piano), some dance & nrg, which is good for the US Market. Plus the MORE you listen to it THE BETTER it gets!
Track 1 It is the 1st Single of this Album and my personal favorite Track 2 It is a nice remake with piano music... very sweet, touching, lovely vocals, and heart felt. Track 3 Ooooh this one is AWESOME with an acoustic beat... very easy listening, happy going, catchy and one of my favorites Track 4 This one is hi-nrg & with mellow vocals, and it sounds like Ian Van Dahl type music Track 5 Its a very nice acoustic tune... its touching, heart felt, she kind of sounds like ace of base in this one, great lyrics and vocals another of my favorites. Track 6 Another piano ballad... it is calm and it has a catchy chorus Track 7 I like this one cuz its happy sounding, energetic, I like the music that it has! Track 8 This one is VERY VERY NICE Piano Ballad... heart felt & touching -- If only it could come true :-/ Track 9 OOOOH I love this one.. very Ultrabeat sounding music..very energetic, dancy, light and fun to listen too --- It'll put you in a HAPPY Mood! Track 10 This one is Belgium Dance all the way...sounds like Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo and Sylver. Track 11 This is another Belgium Dance tune... very deep & dark sounding, very awesome music and great vocals Track 12 Is the Vocal Unplugged Version of Track 1.. VERY VERY AWESOME Vocals... Conclusion --- this Album offer lots of variations of sounds and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Gorgeous Music,
This review is from: Listen to Your Heart (Audio CD)
I wound up getting this album because of the song Listen To Your Heart, and wound up falling in love with it for the other songs. A wonderful mix of techno and ballads. While the remake of Roxette's classic is just a great song to get up and dance to, I'm more prone to listening to the slower songs- "I Miss You," which almost makes me want to cry when I hear it. The music and the voice of Edmee, sorry if that is misspelled, are just wonderful. If one doesn't like the words, then they might love the music to it. It makes it a great dance track while still being heart wrenching like some of my favorite ballads.
At Seventeen, probably my least favorite track on the album, is still a great song to listen to. Especially if you like older sounding songs. I realize that it is a cover as well, but it's not as well done as Listen to Your Heart. Fortunately, the other songs make up for it in my opinion.

DHT,
This review is from: Listen to Your Heart (Audio CD)
DHT's "Listen to Your Heart" is an uneven cd throughout. I purchased it hoping that it would be upbeat, energetic, dance-able Euro-dance. And to some degree, it is. The title track is very popular and for good reason.
However, there's quite a bit of slower ballad-style songs. Now this would be perfectly fine if it were a Dido album. But I purchased this hoping for something to drive fast to. That said, there are a few good upbeat Euro-dance songs. However they are sometimes followed immediately by a slow song, which creates a very uneven flow to the music. Overall, DHT is just ok. It's not something I would listen to over and over again.

*PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE READING OTHER REVIEWS*,

I'd like to suggest to everyone who uses these reviews and takes them seriously to thoroughly read each of the negative ones before making any decisions. The majority of the poor reviews here jump right into comparing DHT to Roxette. Their entire rant is about that comparison, and they damage the CD's score on Amazon because of ONE SONG. If you want to complain about "Listen to your Heart" - the song - then find the CD single and rant there about how it doesn't live up to Roxette's version.
Do you people seriously think the posts bashing one song and giving the CD 1-star have actually heard the rest of the CD before making their review? Of course not. They probably heard "Listen to your Heart", are offended because it was a Roxette song, and then bitch here about it. I guarantee most of the 1-star voters don't own the CD, or haven't heard half of it. I think the logic behind basing an entire album off one song is insane. At least people giving the CD actual reviews are benefiting potential fans. Maybe if I disliked an actor, I should go on every movie he's made and give it 1-star. Why not base this actor's entire career off a remake and ruin potential fans over my ignorance? I for one bought and enjoyed the CD. "I Miss You" is my favorite song to date because I took the time to listen to the CD. Each song fills a mood, it's not an energetic trance album you'd hear at a club. Lose that perception before buying. |
