Booming on After 50 for Babyboomers,
This review is from: Listen To Your Hormones: A Doctor's Guide To Sex, Love And Hormones-especially For Men (Paperback)
A firefighter friend gave me a copy of Dr. Kryger's book. I read it, bought an extra copy to loan to friends, and decided that I also should visit Dr. Kryger for a testosterone check-up.
I am now on his supplementation regimen, and taking to heart his suggestions for living less stressfully and more joyfully, even gracefully at times. As my Mom used to say, "Growing old ain't for sissies." ButI would add that there is a "smart way to age." Dr. K's book discusses the endocrine system of hormones, how their interplay works, how their balance can be distorted by environmental toxins, and how aging, in part, is a process of the endocrine system degrading over time. Every man and woman over 50 should understand that the Master Hormone, Testosterone, is the good guy, not the bad guy in hormonal balancing. Cortisol and estrogen more often deserve the blame for foul moods and rages. Men and women need testosterone, but men need more -- not just for erections, but also for mood, motivation, muscle mass, and mental clarity. Testosterone is arguably one of the most misunderstood but critically important hormones of our endocrine system. For a long happy life, you should listen to your hormones, and get them checked on a regular basis, especially you Babyboomers out there. Dr. Kryger's book or website is a good place to start. A book for men and the women who love them.,
By Mary Martin "concerned housewife." (Monterey , California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Listen To Your Hormones: A Doctor's Guide To Sex, Love And Hormones-especially For Men (Paperback)
This book is written for men but its women who really need to read it. In this age of high expectations from wives for their husbands to always be the "best".... breadwinner, athlete or sexual partner..... disappointment is an easy outcome. When I read this book I realized my poor hubby was doing his best, eating right, exercising till the sweat poured off his brow, working 6/7 to meet our financial needs and somehow was not really "enjoying life". His sex drive and erections had disappeared. I suggested he get his testosterone level checked. We were both shocked to find his level ( he is 54) was that of a 75 year old man. "Help!!" we shouted to the doctor , who said, "it's just his age, he's fine." I knew something was wrong but the doctor insisted it was better for him to just slow down a bit and act more like a man his age. It was normal for men to lose their sexual drive as they aged. One night he developed terrible chest pain and had trouble breathing. I drove to the ER with tears in my eyes, thinking, " I might lose this wonderful guy"...... fortunately he survived his heart attack and I learned from reading, Listen To Your Hormones , that men with low testosterone have heart attacks more frequently than those with normal levels. After we found a doctor who would treat his hormone deficiency ( Dr. Kryger) I am happy to say that we are both enjoying life and love a lot more often without using Viagra or Cialis. Thank you for this book, DrK and can you write a book for women and what we should do about our hormones?

From hormones to depression to food choices -- the list goes on -- one begins to comprehend why certain life changes are needed to attain both mental and physical health, not to mention longer life. I, for one, always want to understand "why." Dr. Kryger's book fills this need in an interesting and easy-to-read fashion.
I highly recommend this book for both men and women.

Excellent Discussion of an Important Topic,
This review is from: Listen To Your Hormones: A Doctor's Guide To Sex, Love And Hormones-especially For Men (Paperback)
Pollution, lack of exercise, obesity, and an unhealthful diet can shorten and reduce the quality of life. Inadequate levels of hormones can also contribute to many age-related conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid deficiency, weight gain, and depression. How does this happen? Environmental pollutants create estrogen-like effects that diminish those hormones essential for normal functioning. While hormone replacement therapies may favorably influence many of the effects of aging, the foods we chose are even more important in preventing age-related health problems. The value of "Listen to Your Hormones: A Doctor's Guide to Sex, Love and Long Life Especially for Men" is that the author provides advice as to how hormones can be used to slow down the aging process and how the average person an implement this advice. The book also provides much needed guidance for clearly communicating this information to physicians, who can then assist in the process of achieving an optimal hormonal balance.
"Listen to Your Hormones presents a vast amount of information about specific hormones and how they influence our emotions, libido, and aggression. "Listen to Your Hormones" is well referenced and contains a glossary and online resources for those who wish to learn more about hormones and health. This book should appeal to a wide audience, and I highly recommend it to medical professionals, scientific researchers, and laypeople who are concerned with optimizing their health. "Listen to Your Hormones" successfully combines scientific rigor with a commendably clear writing style, achieving its purpose of informing its readers of the critical influence hormones have on the quality of their lives.

An Eye-Opener for Men -- and Women, Too,

This review is from: Listen To Your Hormones: A Doctor's Guide To Sex, Love And Hormones-especially For Men (Paperback)
This author really knows his stuff! I was skeptical when a friend of mine suggested I read this book. Why would a woman be interested in a book for men? Now I know! Women aren't alone in the struggle to deal with their hormones. And it's time we became better educated about how to help the men in our lives "listen" and "respond" to what their bodies may be telling them about testosterone deficiency. There's also tons of practical advice about lifestyle changes we can make to avoid these problems. And there's shocking information about how dramatically our environment can affect humans' sensitive hormonal balance. A book that really makes you think!

Simply an answer that I couldn't even find from my own doctor.
We get tested on so many other things by our doctors but never get the real importance of hormones. Thanks Doc!

I have been a patient of Dr. Kryger for a couple of years now and have to thank him for discovering a lack of balance in my hormones. Since I began taking Dr. K's Testo Creme I am beginning to get my life back. I have more enery and stamina, my brain is functioning at a higher level, my body fat (around the mid section especially) is lower and my sexual function is improved to name a few.
Dr. K's book reads like a conversation and informs like a text book filled with valuable information that I find my self reading over and over again. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to understand their hormnones and how they can affect daily life. "Thank you Dr. K. for giving my life back".
