5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful information in layman's terms. I recommend highly., October 13, 1998

This review is from: Listen to Your Pain: The Active Person's Guide to Understanding, Identifying, and Treating Pain and Injury (Paperback)
This book gives clear, understandable step-by-step guidelines to help the reader identify what type of injury is causing his/her pain. This book helped me understand what my chiropractor and sports doctor did not, that I had a torn ligament in my back. This excellent book also describes exercises that will contribute to the healing of one's injury.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want to understand soft tissue injuries? Get this book., November 7, 2005
This review is from: Listen to Your Pain: The Active Person's Guide to Understanding, Identifying, and Treating Pain and Injury (Paperback)
This book is an OUTSTANDING resource (and real eye-opener) for the practitioner as well as for the average person who just wants to understand how things happen in the body and why it can be so hard for some injuries to heal.

Mr. Benjamin is a truly excellent educator who can get the knowledge across in a clear and concise manner. I have personally taken quite a bit of additional training from him revolving around the fundamentals laid out in this book. I can honestly say that it changed my life and my career as a massage therapist.

This is a book that you will refer to CONSTANTLY. It is invaluable.

This review is from: Listen to Your Pain: The Active Person's Guide to Understanding, Identifying, and Treating Pain and Injury (Paperback)
This is a good book if you are experiencing any pain. It will discribe the problem you are having and how to treat it. It could even save you from going to the doctors office and spending unessesary money if you are sure of your problem and can treat it yorself. I enjoy having this book around. It is a good reference book.

Ben Benjamin has been my favorite bodywork writer for a long time. I read all of his columns in the American Massage Therapy Association Journal. This book has been thoroughly used so that the cover has even fallen off! Keep up the great writing Ben! Having authored "The Healing Art of Sports Massage", I have a specific need to know things for my practice to be successful!

I received my first copy of "Listen to Your Pain" by Ben Benjamin in 1988 from my first massage therapist. I have referred to it year after year for the best diagnostic and treatment advice for any/all injuries. I was researching a knee injury online the other night; I always include "ben Benjamin" in my search to see what he says about the injury. That is when I came across this newest edition of "Listen to Your Pain." I ordered it with the fastest shipping and as usual Amazon came through with getting it here on Saturday morning! I turned to the "knee" section and right away found THE EXACT symptoms and description to my injury. This is an issue I have been dealing with for over 2 years and has responded to no treatents. Now I know where to go to properly address this issue. Get this book if you work out or have suffered any type of pain/injury. Ben Benjamin is 2nd to none in helping to diagnose and treating injuries and all without seeing you in person. His practice is only about 2 1/2 hours away from my home and if his book wasn't so good at telling how to fix stuff, I would not hesitate in going there. Don't question it, get it!

This is an easy to understand book. I learned a great deal from it. The author knows his stuff, and wrote the book so you don't have to have a great deal of knowledge to follow along. I would recommend this to anyone who deals with injuries, or who has an injury or pain and wants to learn more about it.

I bought this book over 20 years ago and have used it frequently over the years to diagnose sprained ankles, injured knees, and back, chest and shoulder pain. It has never been wrong and the treatment advice has been excellent. I have to say I have never taken the "cortisone shot" advice, but have used other treatments suggested in the book and the injuries have always healed. The best diagnosis was experiencing some worrisome chest pain. We discovered that he had overused a deep chest muscle and that was the sole cause of his pain. This book is great and I will never part with it!

This book is a terrific resource for active people. I have an earlier edition that is now in tatters from constant use over almost 20 years. I thought it was time for the "updated" version.
The book has well written descriptions and diagrams of body areas that -- sooner or later -- an active person will find "talking" to them. There are good descriptions of what happened, how to test for a problem, what the probable treatment methods will be, and how to prevent a re-occurrence. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen to Your Pain: The Active Person's Guide to Understanding, Identifying and Treating Pain and Injury, September 7, 2011
This review is from: Listen to Your Pain: The Active Person's Guide to Understanding, Identifying, and Treating Pain and Injury (Paperback)
EXCELLENT BOOK!!! Bought this book many years ago. Being a runner, tennis player, skier, swimmer, I purchased this book at the top running store in my city. It came "highly recommended" by one of the store clerks, and he was "absolutely right"! I refer to it all the time and even allow my friends to borrow it. Then they become hooked and end up purchasing a book for themselves. I cannot say enough about this easy to understand book - through various stretches, positions, and well drawn diagrams, it helps you locate the particular muscle, etc. causing the discomfort; offers a wealth of information on how to care for that specific injury; and then provides exercises to strengthen the area. And, yes, I do see physicians if needed; but this book has saved me many unnecessary visits to the doctors and $$$.
