5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fabulous
This is for the Max McLean KJV mp3 Bible.

The best reading of the King James ever.

Scourby is the standard, but the audio quality of the master tapes has deteriorated over the years.

Even so, Max McLean has set a new standard. His rendering is not just a reading of the Word, it is an EXPERIENCE of the Word.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bible but there's a BUG w/ direct verse jump
I typed in phm.1 or phm.1.1 and takes me to Exodus after the double click. If I type in phm.1.2 however, it'll take me to the right place.

I also typed in the full name Philemon, it gave me Location 3973 but when I clicked on it, I was taken to Exodus again.

Tried this on other books like John (jn.1 or jn.1.1), Acts (ac.1 or ac.1.1) and takes me to...

Scourby is the standard, but the audio quality of the master tapes has deteriorated over the years.

Even so, Max McLean has set a new standard. His rendering is not just a reading of the Word, it is an EXPERIENCE of the Word.

The audio quality is excellent, and the volume level is consistent. (The earlier NIV went from very quiet to very loud making it difficult to listen to with headphones or in a car)

Personally, I love the fact that there is NO background music, as I find it distracting.

There is a bit of a pause at the end of each chapter. Some car mp3 players cut off the last few seconds of audio, so why ever they did it, it works for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, December 19, 2009

I first bought another KJV publication from osnova B002TG4P8Q. They are basically the same, the only exception being that this one has paragraphed text and the other has one verse per line. So, I will just repeat what I've said about the other version.

This version is superb, the best KJV on the Kindle. I like osnova's navigation trick that helps me locate any verse in seconds. I even went ahead and purchased other publications from osnova.

I recently purchased the KJV Kindle Bible from OSNOVA with Direct Verse Jump. I was very excited about this feature but found that it did not work well with the Kindle 3. I emailed OSNOVA and received a prompt resonse. They were aware of the problem (apparently it has something to do with font size, of all things)and were trying to work with Amazon to fix the problem. Apparently, the problem lies with Amazon not OSNOVA. They supplied me with many options and solutions to my problem, most notably DVJ-2. When I found that I did not have the DVJ-2 option, OSNOVA immediately sent me an update to access this option. It seems to have solved my navigation problem. I cannot stress how completely satisfied I am with OSNOVA's customer service. It is exceptional!! It is the best I've ever experienced! I will not hestate to buy more products from them in the future.

I typed in phm.1 or phm.1.1 and takes me to Exodus after the double click. If I type in phm.1.2 however, it'll take me to the right place.

I also typed in the full name Philemon, it gave me Location 3973 but when I clicked on it, I was taken to Exodus again.

Tried this on other books like John (jn.1 or jn.1.1), Acts (ac.1 or ac.1.1) and takes me to Exodus. I have the Kindle 3 latest generation.

Please kindly fix this. It seems that it is on some books(not all) of Old and New Testament as I tried it on Songs of Solomon (so.1 or so.1.1) and it also does it. Some books are affected and some not.

It's disappointing as I really want it to work properly.

-------

Add:

I just tried to direct verse jump to mk.1.2 and again got Exodus. So it's not just the first chapter and first verse of some books. Until this is fixed, I think I'll just get a refund and stick to my less fancy Kindle KJV bible. I already have a cheap Kindle bible with just normal ToC but I got this for the direct verse jump as I would like that a lot. But if it doesn't work as it should then there is no point for me keeping this one too.

The direct verse jump was really the selling point of this Bible for me and I want it to work properly all the time and not have to wonder if it will work for me or not while at church. So I guess I'll still have to bring a physical Bible to church.

I will rebuy this if the bug is fixed.

This review is for the paragraphed version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful voice, wonderful interpretation, September 11, 2008

This review is from: The Listener's KJV MP3 Audio Bible (Audio CD)
I wanted an mp3 format so I could listen on my mp3 player while I walked and exercised. I'd heard Max McLean on the audio version of biblegateway.com on my desktop and loved his voice. The mp3 version makes his voice portable and I can leave my desktop.

His interpretation is wonderful. He knows what he's reading. And his voice is not that stilted, basso, fake-o sound. This one is like hearing the Royal Shakespeare Company doing Shakespeare. I understand Max is Panamanian, but his voice sounds like he's from the House of Lords. It's human at the same time, though. It helps that he believes what he's reading and knows how to interpret it. This is lively, meaningful and effortless King James.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kindle 1 doesn't Direct Verse Jump, January 14, 2010

Hi,

The book appears to be well translated to Kindle, but the navigation is very limited on the Kindle 1 (1st gen) I have two problems.

1. Direct verse jump doesn't work at all, not inside the book and not when in search mode for the entire contents of the Kindle, this is poorly (NOT) documented on the sales page, (should state DVJ is not for K1 devices)

2. TOC navigation is limited. for example, I page through to find Luke and it's chapter navigation is all one bar, 1-24. when I highlight that bar the menu opens 1-13 with no way to scroll or change pages to get at the 2nd half (14-24)of the chapter list.

After all that I do have to say that the navigation is better than my kindle 1st bible, I had to manually go in and place Highlight bookmarks on each book and chapter it was a real mess.

2.0 out of 5 stars King James Bible (KJV) lacks page titles, March 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This KING James Bible (KJV) has some good search features but lacks a very glaring requirement. It does not show book title/location on each page. So you can search and except for the very first page of a scripture book, you have no idea which book you are viewing.

McLean has a great voice. This a a good reading with no over the top dramatics or silly background music or effects. A must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best one I've come across yet!, December 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
After having downloaded several e-bibles, I've found that this one does exactly what I wanted it to do. You can imput the book, chapter and verse and it takes you there. This is a feature I was looking for in the other bibles on my Kindle but they fell short. One note though, as in other large books, the bible must be indexed by the kindle before you can use the direct verse jump feature. This takes several hours but I was definitely pleased once it was completed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Navigation!, July 7, 2010
By

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this bible. It is so easy to jump directly to any verse in the bible. The text-to-speech doesn't work very well because it's constantly reading numbers -- however OSNOVA has solved that problem by creating a version of this bible without any of the verses, navigation, etc. However, I don't think I will purchase it until Amazon updates their firmware to incorporate a way for Kindle developers to skip over notations, add pauses, etc so works of this nature can be enjoyed audibly and have the great navigational functionality.

The only problem: I just got this bible, so I haven't memorized all of the books. While some of them are obvious, not all of them are. So, I made a cheat sheet with all of the books plus their short codes that's just a tad larger than 4x6 when printed. As long as all of OSNOVA's bibles use the same short codes, you can use it for any of them. You can download it for free here: [...]
