Poetry that is full of surprises, October 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Listening for Cactus (Paperback)
The first astonishing thing about this book is the title page in Braille. Unexpected and very effective --- the reader crosses into the tactile and stunningly sensuous world of the poet. Throw out your tired old sterotypes about disability and blindness because this powerful poet is completely in control of her art. You'll notice it in her startling language---full of tastes and smells and little sensory shivers--- and the way the body is utterly present in each poem. And did I mention erotic? All that exercise of the other senses (however many of them we've got) has led to arrestingly erotic poems.
Get this book. Read it aloud to a friend if you're that brave. You won't be the same.
