Brief But Detailed,
By Bu-Chan (Aotearoa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Listening: Language Teaching: A Scheme for Teacher Education (Paperback)
"Listening" is a brief book, but one that packs a lot of information into its pages. For anyone wanting to start a deeper study of the listening skill in the English classroom for foreign students, this is a good place to start.
Anderson and Lynch relate a lot of their content to studies that have been done, especially those studying native-speakers and children. Where they can, they draw from research on foreign language learners and adults, but in some aspects, this is sparse and sometimes simply unavailable for the purposes of this volume. The book covers issues that learners face with listening, some of the skills they need and what teachers can do and consider in order to make the listening process a whole lot more rewarding. Sections include grading material to students' levels, what processes need to happen and some of the research that has gone into it. I really found this book to be interesting and very informative and recommend to anyone with interests in this skill set for foreign language learners. |
