Book Description

It's Not Your Imagination
For some women, natural hormonal fluctuations create little stress or discomfort, while for many others hormonal changes can cause severe, chronic suffering. The simple truth is that nearly all women will experience a hormone-related illness at some point in their lives.
In this practical, solution-filled resource, women's health educator Gillian Ford empowers women by giving them the facts. Listening to Your Hormones illustrates the pervasive role hormones play in women's lives and reveals how to form a successful partnership with a doctor to find treatments that work.
"Women are wonderfully unique beings, and, finally, Gillian Ford has addressed our special hormonal concerns and needs. For the millions of women who experience emotional and physical changes from PMS through menopause, this book is a gold mine of information."—Debra Waterhouse, M.P.H., R.D., author of Outsmarting the Female Fat Cell and Why Women Need Chocolate.
"Give[s] women an opportunity to take positive control of their own health . . . A crucially important book."—Janine O-Leary Cobb, author of Understanding Menopause

It's Not Your Imagination

From the Author

I am the author. I wrote this book for women, like myself, who suffer from common hormonal disorders. These include PMS, thyroid disorders, menopausal and perimenopausal problems, and postpartum depression, among other things. Because women have complex hormone and immune systems in order to maintain pregnancy, they have a greater proportion of hormone problems than men. Each woman is unique and can present quite differently. This often leads to a lack of recognition in the medical world. This book is meant to be a guide to practical help for such women and their partners.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all women, May 24, 2000

This review is from: Listening to Your Hormones: From PMS to Menopause, Every Woman's Complete Guide (Paperback)
This book helped me tremendously, especially the section regarding the thyroid link. For such a small gland, the thyroid affects so much and frequently gets overlooked by the medical profession. The author lists symptoms of thyroid disorder and even refers to the Dr's conflicting opinions on treatment for the disease. Women know how much hormones affect their body and this book covers it all. Every woman I know should have a copy because of all the hormonal changes that take place in a woman's lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect tool for women to reach balanced health, January 13, 1999
This review is from: Listening to Your Hormones: From PMS to Menopause, Every Woman's Complete Guide (Paperback)
Do you go to your Doctor's office, attempting to convey your very uncomfortable symptoms of PMS, Postpartum Depression,or Menopause, only to get a routine answer of either; a.) It's all in your head, you should see a mental health provider, or b.)Go on the birth control pill, or c.)It's something all women go through, go home and deal with it! These are all responses I have gotten in the past. I would highly recommend to any woman of any age to purchase a copy of "Listening to Your Hormones". This book is filled with answers. It addresses every hormonal issue a woman faces throughout her life. With book in hand there is no problem that can't be dealt with, with your Physicians assistance.

Arm yourselves ladies! This is a must for everyone, spouses included!

5.0 out of 5 stars It assured me that I wasn't crazy!!!, May 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Listening to Your Hormones: From PMS to Menopause, Every Woman's Complete Guide (Paperback)
After I read the introduction, I realized that I wasn't crazy! I'm not the only one in the world that has seen multiple doctors about my PMS and have received less than caring responses to this monthly problem. It assured me that lots of women experience hormonal imbalances and that there are solutions.

The references in the back of the book have been invaluable. I am currently in the process of contacting various sources. I know that there are doctors out there that care and I am certain that I will eventually find one that will listen.

If you experience PMS, or other hormonal imbalances, and if your quality of life is good for about 1/2 the month and unbearable for the other half, read this!

I like that the book is easy to read and that it is written by someone who has experienced this herself. I found myself reading the book whenever I had free time - it was hard to put down!

Great job, very informative!
