Listerine is a Product that Can Help Reduce Gingivitis, March 26, 2007
This review is from: Listerine Advanced Antiseptic Mouthwash with Tartar Control Arctic Mint - 1 Liter (Health and Beauty)
As a dentist, I have seen the effectiveness of certain oral health products over a long period of time. Listerine is a product that in general can have a postive effect on one's oral health, especially to help reduce gingivitis.
I recommend to my patients with chronic gingivitis that they brush their teeth and gums with Listerine 2-3 times a day. Patients can still brush with a fluoridated toothpaste as well, as the fluoride is proven to reduce the incidence of cavities. When one brushes with Listerine, the active ingredients in Listerine kill oral bacteria - the plaque bacteria that cause gingivitis. Gentle circular scrubbing of the gums and teeth will kill the bacteria that cause cavities and gum gingivitis. Done twice a day, Listerine will keep your mouth cleaner and healthier.
Technique: (Do not put a large volume in your mouth and rinse as shown on tv!)
1. Pour a "small" amount (perhaps half a cap) of Listerine in one's mouth.
2. Brush teeth and gums gently (with mouth closed to prevent the Listerine from leaking out) for about 1-2 minutes.
3. Spit out excess.
4. Do not rinse off teeth
5. Brush twice a day in AM and PM minimally.
When used in a limited fashion, Listerine is a good addition to one's oral hygiene. Choose a flavor that agrees with you - (blue or green colors) avoid the original yellow tinted Listerine. It tastes terrible and you will not want to use it daily. There is a new Listerine with fluoride in it that will help to strengthen enamel (enamel with flouride embedded in the enamel crystal is harder to dissolve by bacterial acids).
If you have dry mouth or your mouth is easily irritated, use a product that has less alcohol content. The alcohol in Listerine will further dry and irritate one's mouth.

Great product, refreshing taste, not too strong, December 24, 2011
This is the best Listerine product that is out. It's a lighter taste than original or the Mint versions. The size is great for putting in your bathroom.

My weapon against tartar, August 9, 2006
I am using this product for my own mouth and have been very pleased with the results. True enough, I have not had any tartar since rinsing with it. My teeth are also brighter.
However, I wish that the Tartar Control properties came in their 'less intense' versions. The artic mint version even gets a little too intense for me sometimes and other times I just would like to switch out but cannot under dentist orders.
