As a Bzz Agent, I received a sample of this product and a $3 coupon, so I payed about $21 in the store (I believe it normally costs about $24 in the stores).

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Crest - Why Did this Product get bad reviews?, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
Ok here is the breakdown. I've used the crest whitening strips for years now...and I've always hated the inconvenience of putting them in my mouth, leaving them in for 10 minutes while letting my mouth fill with saliva, and almost getting to the point of gagging before I spit the whole thing out. I also wasn't able to speak while I had to crest strips in.

I got a free sample of these from Walmart and then ordered a pack from Amazon. Honestly I can see why people put them on wrong because the instructions are a bit vague and a friend has told me that when he puts the strip on while looking in the mirror that the notch on the strip may seem like it's on the wrong side.

Well your right side is your right side regardless of what it looks like in the mirror. Your right hand may appear to be your left if you're looking at it from the perspective of the person in the mirror. So before putting them on backwards then complaining that they stick to your hands first try putting them on the right way. The adhesive side is the side with the whitening substance.

Ok back to the product. I put the strip in my mouth and it adhered very firmly; enough so that I could speak normally without any discomfort or fear that saliva would pour out of my mouth. At first I was weary to swallow because the taste was slightly familiar to that of crest, but I did and it wasn't bad at all. Of course it didn't taste like fresh mint bubblegum (Yes commercials exaggerate) but I was pleased with the result. It took about 7 minutes for the strip to dissolve but like the others said it didn't completely dissolve. Well I waited a few more minutes and after about 15 minutes the strip was completely gone. I figured that I would leave the stuff on there as long as I could to get the most out of it, and I was very happy when I realized that I didn't have to go to the bathroom and brush my teeth or get any excess residue off my teeth.

Pros
- Can wear them at work after a cup of coffee.
- No need (At least for me) to use the sink or brush afterwords.
- Does not produce as much saliva.
- Adheres firmly enough so that you can speak with them in your mouth.
- They whiten your teeth about as well as the Crest strips yet much more convenient.

Cons
- Sometimes it's a bit difficult to take out of the package.
- Instructions are pretty vague
- Don't taste great...but not bad...a bit better than crest.

I never write online reviews, but after seeing the reviews of people who ranked the product poorly because they had an allergic reaction to it or people who put the product on the wrong way, I decided to do the product justice. If you don't trust the review then I suggest getting a free sample at Walmart or borrow one from a friend.

Look I'm not asking you to take my advice. I'm just asking you not to take theirs.

UPDATE: Hey guys just thought I'd mention a few things...I see that "Short Dated" has been added to this product...and personally I'd stay away from any whitening strips that are close to expiring...I used some expired crest strips once and almost vomited. I believe the chemicals begin to oxidize after extended periods of time...which makes for a much less desirable taste, and weakens the whitening agents.

Oh also like many of the negative reviews said...make sure your hands are dry and curl your lips before putting these things on, so you can get them on your teeth correctly. Hope this review helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars I was skeptical, but it works!, September 7, 2007
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
Pros:

-Comes with 56 strips.
-Individually wrapped, easy to apply and don't fall off.
-Works pretty well so far.

Cons:

-Initially some tooth/gum related pain.
-Some of the packages can be annoying to open.

I decided to try the Listerine Whitening strips, since they looked like a tempting new product, plus they were more competitively priced. I'm not sure what the hydrogen peroxide contents of these are, but initially I did have some of the associated tooth/gum pain. It felt like pain associated with a cavity, but worse. So I stopped treatment, and did the treatment a little slower. The pain only happened once, and I've since upped the treatment back two twice a day without problems.

The strips are individually wrapped, and are easy to apply. Make sure you follow the directions though! The cleaning material is only on one side of the strip, so make sure you align the notch correctly when applying the strip. **For the reviewer below who mentioned that the strips wouldn't stay on, you probably didn't orient them in the correct direction. I also had that problem, until I checked the box and saw my notches weren't lined up.**

You leave it on for about 10 minutes, and afterwards, brush off the excess. I wasn't a heavy coffee drinker before this, so my teeth just had some yellowish-ness around the base of the teeth. Now, after just a week, my teeth look great in pictures, and upon examination in the mirror, the yellowish-ness is much reduced!

Can't wait to see the results after 2 weeks. Good thing there are plenty of extra strips included as well to continue the treatment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very convenient!, August 22, 2007

This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
I was very skeptical when I first tried this product. I have tried many on the market and none of them really seem to do the job. I received 2 strips in the mail to try so I figured what the heck. They were very easy to put on and very comfortable once they were on. I could carry on a conversation very easily, no foaming or anything. After about 5 minutes they were dissolved but they dissolve down and leave a sticky goo in your mouth. You definitely need to rinse so I dont recommend using these if you are in a position where you cant rinse. I brushed after mine dissolved so I could get all that residue off. Checked out my teeth in the mirror after I finished brushing and wow!! I was impressed. Now, they werent snow white but I also only used them one time and there was a noticeable difference. I cant wait to go buy some of these and whiten my teeth even more.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
After years of grudgingly using Crest Whitestrips, I bought a box of these and am thrilled. While both are effective for me, I love the convenience of sticking these on my teeth and going on with my life. Since they stay in place, I can have conversations or run errands or go to sleep without any problems. The taste is acceptable (much better than the Whitestrips), and the gooey residue doesn't bother me. It takes 20-25 minutes for mine to dissolve, which is still shorter than the 30 minutes I kept the uncomfortable Whitestrips in. In less than a week, my noticeably whiter teeth have already elicited positive comments.

I have had no problems with the strips sticking to my hands or anything except my teeth. Although the strips can be a bit challenging to remove from the package, I have not had to resort to scissors yet.

If you have the patience and persistence for at-home whitening, I recommend that you give this product a try! I don't normally write reviews, but since I base many of my purchasing decisions on Amazon user reviews, I thought I would share my positive experience with this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick results, no mess, November 15, 2007
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
As a Bzz Agent, I received a sample of this product and a $3 coupon, so I payed about $21 in the store (I believe it normally costs about $24 in the stores).
I found that the product is quite easy to use and doesn't take an extensive daily time commitment, like some of the whitening tray products do. It needs to be used 4 times a day, and dissolves in about 10 minutes. Don't expect the product to completely dissolve to nothingness, though, as you may assume it does from advertising. After the 10 minutes, there is still some residue on the teeth, but it is not visible, and since it has a pleasant taste, it should not be too bothersome. The taste is a light mint flavor, and it does last even after the product has dissolved, so it leaves you feeling fresh. Some other whitening products (Crest comes to mind) leave a somewhat chemical aftertaste, so the flavor of the Listerine Whitening Strips is a nice change of pace.
Another difference between the Listerine strips and Crest strips is that the Listerine strips didn't cause me any tooth or gum sensitivity. I had some problems with discomfort and pain after using the Crest strips, and did not find that with the Listerine strips at all.
While the strips are on your teeth, they may feel a bit sticky at first. My top and bottom teeth stick together a little when I first put the strips on(not a big problem, though, since the strips dissolve quickly). The only other problem was that sometimes the strips stick in the package and then tear when you try to pull them out because they are stuck to the package.
On to the most important factor - the results: I started to see a difference in the whiteness and brightness of my teeth before the two weeks was up. It works even on some of the problem areas, like right along the gum line and in that area right in between your teeth, where it is harder to keep them white.
Overall, an easy-to-use product, comfortable to wear, quick results. I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and conveinient, March 29, 2009
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
After reading some of the reviews, I decided to add my own. These strips work great and after the use of the full box, there is a noticeable difference.

Most of the complaints refer to two things:
- the difficulty opening the package
- the difficulty getting them on your teeth
1. I can see why some have trouble with the package, but unless you have no finesse whatsoever or have problems opening a bag of chips without spilling them all over the floor, I think people are being a bit ridiculous. Out of the whole box, there was only one that I ripped part of the strip, but I was still able to use it.
2. I have not had ANY problems getting them on my teeth. I aim so that they cover my gums just a tad since the strip is more than large enough to do that. I don't have particularly large teeth or lips, so if you have either of the two, you might want to try it out first.

Overall, the best thing about these is the convenience. In the morning I put it on before heading out for the day and it dissolves as I'm in the car without the hassle of trying to find a way to throw it out. At night, I just wear them to sleep. The taste is a bit minty which is fine to me and doesn't bother me. As for the little film that is left in your mouth afterwards, sometimes it just goes away before I know it; otherwise I just quickly use my tongue to get rid of it. Great product, highly recommended for people who want something that works and doesn't find themselves needing to complain about every little thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, needs some work, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
I have used the Crest Whitestrips several times before, and was happy with the results. However, you do need to keep the Crest strips on a long time, and they are difficult to talk with and people can tell you have them on. So, in theory I thought the Listerine Whitening product was a good idea, since they dissolve on their own (more quickly) and it's not as obvious you are using them. HOWEVER, I think there are several major problems with this product that limit its usefulness. First and foremost, THEY TASTE TERRIBLE!!! I literally gagged when they started to dissolve and had to immediately take them out of my mouth and rinse vigorously. I think the Crest Whitestrips would probably taste bad, too, if I had to taste the hydrogen peroxide, but actually the fact that the product does not dissolve keeps the horrible taste from seeping into your mouth. The second major problems is the packaging--the first package I opened I thought they did not put a strip in there, because it was stuck to the packaging and it is clear, so I did not see it. It is only after I opened a second package that I realized that it could not possibly be empty as well, and I was finally able to find the strip. In removing the stuck on strip I found that they stretched and became deformed, and were difficult to place on the teeth. Also, the application directions are confusing. However, I do think the product works, if you can stand to keep it on your teeth.
Pros:
Strip will work on either upper or lower teeth, so versatile
Fairly quick dissolve time (10-15 min)
Sticks well to teeth
Can talk with strip in place
Not very noticeable on teeth
Whitens teeth

Cons:
Tastes TERRIBLE (I couldn't keep it on my teeth without gagging)
Poor packaging that will cause you to ruin a few strips before you figure it out
Confusing instructions on how to apply strip

Overall, despite some potential improvements over Crest Whitestrips, at this point I think the negatives outweigh the benefits and will be sticking with Crest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best So Far, November 27, 2007

Peanut (Southeastern PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
Overall, the product is excellent and would get a 9 out of 10 for me. (If you take it out of 5, 4.5 rounds up). Crest whitestrips don't even stack up to these, in my opinion. Crest whitestrips leave that nasty taste, along with nasty goo, in your mouth (if you've used them, you know what I'm talking about). These, while not tasting like a great fresh piece of gum, taste more like a plasticky mint. It's not a bad taste, and a whole heck of a lot better than the taste of any other whitening product I've used (including the expensive stuff you get from the dentist). Also, though these do not dissolve COMPLETELY, and do leave a sort of residue, it's nothing like the mess Crest Whitestrips leave when you're finished with them. Unlike the other products, the Listering Whitening strips did not leave my teeth feeling sensitive. They work just as well as any other over the counter whitening treatment.I feel that the little bit of residue left behind is well worth the benefits of this product.(Taste, convenience, sensitivity, and how well they work).

This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
ive been using these strips for about a week now and im definitely happy with the results. i read other reviews complaining about tooth/gum sensitivity but whats great is that you can cut these strips so that they don't overlap onto your gums. they're easy to use and really work, and painless if applied correctly.

This review is from: Listerine Whitening-Instant Dissolving Whitening Strips, 56 Strips (Short Dated) (Health and Beauty)
I have them in as I write this. They honestly taste like minty gum to me, but my taste buds aren't very sensitive, so i don't mind it. I got mine at Longs for 20 dollars and so far its going great. I can already see a difference (I started last night). I really cannot wait to get through the whole box. I don't have any sensitivity after the first strips, so hopefully that won't develop. If it does, well, I'll tough it out. Its worth it. And I don't really see how someone could mess up opening the packages, I mean, maybe if you didn't look at them, or read the directions. Its not terribly hard. I haven't had a problem yet, very simple, and they stick nicely so they're easier to put on. Anyway, the ones I had in my mouth are gone now! Its very exciting.
