The whitening effect is not worth it.

I understand this doesn't happen to most people, but I still think it should be considered a possible side effect with every mouthwash.

The film is NOT the skin on the inside of your mouth peeling off!

I'm not sure what all this crazy stuff about loss of taste and feeling in the mouth is, maybe a lot of people are having an allergic reaction? I have been using this product for a year; at first there was a strange residue it left behind, but that slowly went away as I continued to use it.

Understand this is a PRE-BRUSH RINSE, you are supposed to brush your teeth thoroughly AFTER using it, which gets most of the nasty film off. I'm not sure if this has helped keep my teeth white or if I've just been better about brushing my teeth, but it is a decent product and I will continue to use it off and on.

I've used this product for several months and I really like how clean it leaves my teeth. It does take some getting used to --you brush after you rinse with Listerine Whitening and there is more foaming then I've ever had (initially some tingling but that went away after about a week of using). My son puts his retainer into a cap-full before he brushes his retainer. He loves how it foams up and then his toothbrush is more foamy as he's brushing his retainer. I've gotten him to use this rinse as well and his dentist said he really likes the improvement in his over all dental care.

I then decided to try the Crest Whitening rinse as it was slightly cheaper (Crest is not a pre-rinse). While the Crest mouth wash was fine as a regular rinse/germ killer, my teeth did not feel as clean as when I used the Listerine. I didn't see huge differences in whitening from either product and I think I understand why now: Good Housekeeping Dec 2008 issue states that whitening mouth washes are not going to provide huge results, but are good for mild surface stains which I guess I don't have.

I've always had good results with this mouthwash. My teeth are always "shockingly" white.. meaning I look at my teeth and think, "wow." I would definitely recommend this mouthwash. I know what some other reviewers are saying about the gum/inner mouth peeling. I've experienced this, but I agree with the reviewer who said that it is just the mouthwash film peeling after an hour or so. It's def nothing to be concerned about, from what I can tell.

My family has been using "Listerine Whitening MouthWash Pre-Brush Rinse" for 10 months or so, and we are very happy with the results. It is important to follow the directions and remember that you have to brush AFTER using this mouthwash.

We have noticed significantly whiter teeth on my teenage daughter and me. I am reasonably sure that this is not just due to brushing since these habits haven't really changed.

None of us have noticed a "film" in the mouth, sores, or loss of taste as some other reviewers have reported. Note sure if we are just lucky or doing something different.

So, for a product that works better than expected (with noticeable results), this is recommended!

I had the same exact thing happen to me. I first used this a few days ago and lost all taste sensation in my mouth. Then, to add to it, the skin on my gums starts flaking off. I called listerine to find out if this is a normal side effect and they had apparently never heard of this before, even though I've seen hundreds of complaints about various mouthwashes when I googled it, Listerine Whitening Pre-Brush rinse included. So, for my flaky gums and loss of taste I'm getting a $6 check in the mail. That's nice. I understand this doesn't happen to most people, but I still think it should be considered a possible side effect with every mouthwash.

These Pre-Brush rinses all leave a strange film in your mouth that starts to peel off after an hour or two. I'm not sure why this happens, but it is kind of strange. The film is NOT the skin on the inside of your mouth peeling off!

This is basically regular mouthwash with whitening agents blended in. It kills germs just like regular Listerine (i.e. it has alcohol + peroxide). Like most whitening products the improvement in color is minimal at best. At least the rinse doesn't use the abrasive particles(which contribute to retraction of the gum line) like the toothpastes, but that means it probably doesn't whiten as well either.

If you're crazy about whiter teeth and don't mind dealing with the post-rinse mouth film then you might as well switch to the whitening rinse - it can't hurt.

If the price puts you off: you can pick up a bargain brand in your local pharmacy or grocery store for half the price of the listerine version but with identical ingredients.

After the 3-4 weeks of slime in your mouth you actually get to see the effects of the whitening on your teeth. The product seemed to work, i just didn't care for how it seemed to eat the lining of my mouth away and leave a thick slime in my mouth. Using this product doesn't compare at all to the whitening strips or going to the dentist and getting your teeth professionally whitened.

Yes this product will cause the outer layer of the lining of your mouth to peel off, but what is worse is that I lost my sense of taste for 2 weeks. Before I realized that this product was causing me to loose my taste I actually returned food to the grocery store thinking it had gone bad. If you need a tooth whitening agent try something safer.
