5.0 out of 5 stars More Classic Casadesus, January 11, 2004
This review is from: Liszt: Piano Concerto No.2/Weber: Konzertmusik/Saint-Saens: Piano Concerto No.4 (Audio CD)
After purchasing Robert Casadesus' performances of Beethoven's 1st & 4th Piano Concertos with conductor Eduard Van Beinum (see my review), I knew I needed to get more recordings by this great pianist. Like the aforementioned title, this CD is an import by Sony France and is part of a series called "Robert Casadesus: A Legend of the Piano," that features 20 titles! Two of the recordings on this disc have been available before domestically -- the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 4 and the Faure Ballade (both recorded at the same October 30, 1961 session) were available on two different volumes in the Bernstein "Royal Edition" Series but both are now out-of-print. However, to the best of my knowledge this is the first time that the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Weber Konzertstuck (both recorded in mono on January 20, 1952 with George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra) have been released on CD. Fans of great piano playing should not pass up the opportunity to own these classic vintage performances.
