It's me again, March 22, 2004

This review is from: Liszt: Transcendental Studies (Audio CD)
Okay, a year or so has gone by since my short first review. In that time, I compared Leslie Howard's playing of the Transcendental Etudes to several other players. I still think that, pound for pound, Leslie Howard's performance is the best. Sure, Bolet and Arrau play the slower movements very distinctly, but their fast movements lack the savageness that I like to hear in Liszt. (You can guess that I'm a fan of Horowitz's performance of the "Rakoczy March" from his "Favorite Encores" CD.) If I find a better performance of these 12 Etudes, I'll let you know. But for now, it's Howard.

Liszt's Transcendental Etudes, played superbly by Howard. What, I'm supposed to elaborate on that? Hardly!
