Technical Details, needs to be clearer in detail, this is an IDE drive V'S a Sata drive that I thought it was. I already have this drive and it works well. Well at least I have a backup drive now if something was to wrong.

Very good DVD-Drive...........my older Gateway unit had finally spun its last disk......installation was a breeze..........unit worked perfectly....without any software

I just need a very simple DVD-ROM like this one that can read O/S installation disc. That is only what I am caring about. I usually download game through Steam and this machine is only intended for online multiplayers. So it fits my needs. Besdies, Lite-on is an oem providder for my alienware laptop. So I think they should make quality products.

The DVD ROM drive on my four year old HP 1340N XP media center computer died. I could not find an exact replacement. Just installed this one, works fine so far.

So far I have had no problems with this DVD Rom drive. Works great.

I purchased this drive to replace a dead CD drive on my 4(+) year old Sony Vaio system. The original was a reading CD drive only, so to upgrade to a DVD reader was acceptable since I had a DVD writer already.

Opened the case - two mounting screws and out popped the old drive. The kit contained mounting screws, but NO IDE cable. If you don't have a cable, you will have to purchase it separately. Placed the new drive in, closed up the case and rebooted the system. My Vaio running XP Home recognized the new drive and worked at startup. This reader only reads CD's and DVD's without any issues. It is also quieter than my DVD writer.

Bundled with this drive is Nero 7 Essentials software. It is not needed to make this drive operate. I didn't install this software, so I cannot comment about it.

For the price and being a drop in replacement, I recommend this drive to anyone who needs a solid replacement for an older CD reader only. It is getting harder to find EIDE hardware, since everything is going SATA.

This drive is terrible. I bought it for an older computer i rebuilt. It would flat out not install most of my games. It would give read errors partway through installs on just about all the games i had. The only stuff that actually worked was ancient stuff like Far cry 1. I returned it for a 2nd one and it had the same problem. so either i somehow got 2 defective drives or this is just a huge piece of junk. Im guessing the later. Lite on doesn't even have drivers for this thing on its website! After returning the 2nd one (thnx amazon! return was painless and easy) i just went to frys and bought a maxtor drive for 40 bucks that works great. Everything installed and works fine. Spend a bit more for something that actually works
