It IS the same toy you remember,

My daughter received this toy for Christmas. I was optimistic that Hasbro had improved upon some of the Lite Brite drawbacks from years ago, but I haven't been too impressed. For starters, the "flatscreen" idea is cool in theory, but in practice, it doesn't stay standing; you must lay it down flat to put the pegs in, so there is constant handling. The pegs still are easily mishandled and are not failsafe once in, and the peg storage case isn't a smooth open, and pegs have gone everywhere several times. My neighbor's child received an Illumino, which is similarly priced and designed a whole lot better.

My daughter's school sent home a list of recommended activities for children entering 1st grade to do over the summer to help them improve or maintain their fine motors skills. Lite Brite was on the list. It encourages imagination and really gets those fingers moving.

I just wanted to say that this Lite Brite is grossly overpriced on Amazon. I just got it @ Toys r' Us over the weekend and paid 11.98 for it and then I saw it @ Target for under 10.00!!! Please don't pay 35.00 for Lite Brite!! Go to Target, Wal-Mart or Kmart!!!

Bought this for my six year old daughter and she gets hours or entertainment out of it. I like the idea of children being creative and using their imagination and this encourages them to do both. The only problem I have is finding where I can purchase additional pegs for it.

This toy is a lot of fun and also serves as practice for refining fine motor skills. The only problem I have with it is the lack of black paper pages they include with the set. If you plan to order the lite brite, it's also in your best interest to go ahead and order a pack of refill pages from the start.

Good toy with a couple of drawbacks,

When I was shopping for gifts for my grandson's 5th birthday, a Hasbro LiteBrite was high on my list. I retain fond memories of the same basic toy decades ago with my son.The toy is still basically the same: a world of fun. The concept is simple: plug the colored peg into one of the pre-printed designs or do it free form. Press the button and marvel at your colorful creation. Yes, it is simple. Yes, it is fun. Yes, you'll probably win up fighting with the kid for time to play with. (You as the grown-up, of course, have the opportunity to cheat: you can play with it after the kids are in bed.) The device has a couple of small drawbacks. Hasbro doesn't tell you on the outside of the box that the battery-powered lightbulb used isn't available in stores. You have to call Hasbro for replacements. To their credit, Hasbro charges $2 per bulb and no shipping. When I called them, I was prepared to hear something outrageous like $4.95 a bulb plus shipping. Hasbro deserves praise for not gouging. Also, the storage drawer for the pegs is poorly design. The knobs on either side of the rotating drawer don't work well. You have to literally turn the drawer by hand. The knows will work for closing it. Finally, the design does not allow the unit to stand for play - it either has to be laid flat or held in the hands. Overall, still fun after all these years. Jerry

We bought this Lite Brite for our 3 year old. She likes it a lot but it is definitely not perfect by any stretch. My main complaint is that the little compartment for holding the pegs gets stuck and is impossible for a child to open. I am guessing that won't hold up too long as we keep having to force it open. But, our daughter loves it as does our 4 year old son so it was still a good purchase.

As excited as our daughter was to receive a pink Lite Brite, we were so disappointed by the experience that we had to hide it from her for the sake of our own mental sanity - and our younger son's well-being.Pro's: 1) It's pink. Love that. 2) It's classic Lite Brite - the concept is really fun: pegs, lights, patterns. Very cool. 3) Excellent for exploring and learning patterns, numbers to colors, etc. Con's: 1) The drawer holding the pegs is a total design disaster. First, the drawer isn't big enough to hold all the pegs that come with it, so it's already a delicate balance. Second, if you try to open or close the drawer, the drawer sticks until it finally gives way - leading to peg-EXPLOSION! Third, it's not set up to prevent you from opening the drawer upside down - so once again, pegs everywhere. 2) The patterns can only be used once - once you puncture the paper, you can't see the number anymore and for a five year old, it's ALL about following the exact pattern, or forget it. 3) It doesn't stand up properly. That's frustrating for 5 year old trying to puncture paper (see Con #2), without spilling the pegs (see Con #1). If you lay it down on the table, it sort of works, but it's not as easy for a child. 4) Cheap construction. This is not a toy built to last. 5) Pegs, pegs everywhere. Granted this is a classic game but as a parent, I have to wonder how this game hasn't gone the way of thousands of other well-intentioned classics that have now disappeared due to obvious poor judgment in hind sight. Hundreds of tiny pegs...with sharp points. If you have a baby or toddler in the house, think twice and then a third time before allowing Lite Brite into your home...because it will go in their mouth, up their nose, and so on. We have a friend this happened to, and be warned, Lite Brite pegs don't show on X-rays...go figure.

This product is awful. I loved Lite Brite as a child but this is NOT the same. The pegs are very hard to put in and they fall out really easily. You can't put two in next to each other without one falling out. It is very frustrating for my daughter. The drawer where you keep the pegs gets stuck all the time and the pegs go flying when you do get it open. Don't waste your money.
