4.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, bad price
You'd be crazy to buy this toy here for $44.00. It's only $10 at Target and Wal-Mart at regular price.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 broken out of the box
Talk about cheap. We got one of these for my daughter's birthday and I was excited. I had one when I was a kid. It turned on when I put in the batteries (more later) but the on/off switch did not work. So I took it back and got another. Same problem, on/off switch did not work. Talk about quality control issues.

Another complaint. I would prefer the old...

Another complaint. I would prefer the old school electric plug, but they've switched to batteries. Fine. The bulb they use is smaller than a night light bulb, yet it takes 3 D size batteries to run it. Are you kidding me? I think you could light that with 1 C in 1970. Inefficient, wasteful, bad for the environment, expensive to run.

Design could not be much worse. Find a 20 year old model on eBay.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still a Lite Brite, but not the one from your childhood, December 29, 2009

I suspect a lot of people have bought this for their kids, remembering their own sturdy (perhaps slightly hot) Lite Brites. This is not that Lite Brite.

Pros:
- Small, compact. Won't take up much space, and it would travel well.
- Case for pegs--excellent idea. (See cons)
- Battery-powered--don't have to put the kid near an outlet. Use rechargeables, of course.
- It's a Lite Brite!

Cons:
- If you don't open the peg case carefully, pegs go everywhere. It only took me a couple of tries to learn how not to spray pegs, but I don't think my four-year-old will take the same care.
- I *think* my old 80s Lite Brite had a place in the back to store the templates. If it didn't, it should have. And this one should too. Then it would all be self-contained.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flat screen doesn't hold pegs, January 2, 2008

Although the lite-brite arrived quickly and in perfect condition, we found that the pegs don't stay in the holes. The flat screen is much easier to carry and store than the older larger model.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but hard for little fingers, December 26, 2008

I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old, who loves playing with Grandma's original lite bright. SOOO not the same. The papers are hard--almost plastic-feeling, and she has a really hard time pushing the pegs through it. She lost interest in about 3 minutes, where she'll play with the one at grandma's forever! Additionally, the pegs don't stay in well, as was also reflected in other reviews. Thank goodness I only spent $10 at Target for it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not like the old lite brites, December 25, 2008

this toy is ok, but the compartment for the pegs is hard to open and all of the pegs go flying when it does come open. The light also does not stay on which is frustrating for a 4 year old. Also, I think it is not as easy to use the flat screen as it was the older stand up model.

One big issue with Amazon is that it is WAY OVERPRRICED. I got it at Walmart for $10. Thankfully I did not buy it on Amazon.

I ordered this with high hopes since my daughter really wanted one for Xmas. She opened it and it had NO pegs and NO sheets- only the screen. The rest was EMPTY. I asked for another one be sent since it was a defect or a return from someone else. I had to return mine (which they told me would be free shipping- however, the cost was deducted from my original payment) and they gave me a partial refund! Are you kidding me? You send me a terrible product and I have to pay you for shipping? Very poor customer service. Now, I have some pegs (ordered separately) with no screen. Horrible experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Construction - not like the old Light Brights, December 28, 2011
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I loved my Light Bright as a kid and subsequently bought this for my kids. The cheap plastic design leaves much to be desired. 1) The pegs fall out as the kids put them in, making it very frustrating for them, 2) There are not enough pegs of each color to complete all of the designs when you buy refill pages, 3) The peg drawer sticks and all of the pegs spray out all over the place - what a pain! I can hardly talk my kids into playing with this. Now it's just another piece of plastic junk that takes batteries and sits on my shelf.

We bought this for our 4 year old granddaughter for Christmas - at her request. I am hoping she will love it and the purple color is her favorite. When I was a child I had one and we played for hours! Great educational toy also!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as awesome as the original, October 22, 2011
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I bought this for my daughter at a local dollar store(don't pay more than 10 for it in 2011, they've got them again this year) last year. Due to lack of batteries(3 Ds- we kept using them in our son's crib soother) and me kind of forgetting that it was up in the cupboard, we didn't use it for months and months. But we got it out the other night and she had an absolute blast with it. Yes, the pegs don't stick very well due to the truncated ends, if they'd put another quarter inch on the tapered part, they'd be fine. It uses 6 3/4 inch square pieces of paper- we're going to see if we can find some heavy origami paper to use with it because the refills are expensive.

Keep in mind that there is no off switch, it's timed and turns itself off every few minutes, it's easily turned back on by pushing the button located just above the peg storage.

Even with it's faults- it's all plastic, pegs don't stick, I still think it's a good product, just needs some tweaking. Some people say they have problems with the peg holder, which is semi circular tube shaped, you rotate it to get the opening out, but we haven't had any. I taught my daughter(who will be five in 2 months) that it's gotta be flat in order to open the pegs, and she can do it herself, as well as close it up.

In fact, if you overlook the cost of refills or having to cut construction paper to fit, it's an excellent product for the price I paid. It lets her be creative and not messy, and helps her patience level lol.
