For camping, green + no guessing how much propane is left!,
By HMMWV "God, Country, Corps" (santa clara, CA USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Lite Cylinder LC-10-30 Composite See-Through Propane Tank, 3 Gallons Capacity, Blue (Misc.)
NOTE: This is 1/2 the size of a normal bbq grill tank - it's mainly used for camping equipment that connects lanterns, grills, heaters, etc to small non-green throwaway bottles but can be hooked to these with accessories from coleman like this, Coleman Propane Tee, or Coleman High-Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter, or the all metal stems that give you two "outlets" with a 3rd outlet on top for a lantern. If you camp in a group this ONE tank will give you the equivalent of 10 small bottles, and can be refilled over and over.Lots of people will ask, "how can fiberglass hold pressurized gas?" The tricks are that the fiberglass is wound in a proprietary pattern with a robotic machine that combines circular weaves, cross weaves, overlaps, all while applying a composite thermoplastic resin which cures under heat and pressure for 10 minutes. There are some significant advantages to this method of construction in consistency, total lack of rust, see through tank to be able to view the liquid level (and the new required flapper to ensure that only 80% of the tank is liquid, allowing for vapor). The Blue that you see here is just a carry plastic surround - well built too - but it does not contribute to holding pressure. This is a tank for people who want a resuable propane source while camping and know how to find a fill station - there are even search engines for fill stations. The cost savings can be substantial and not having to throw away 10 empty cans of propane is another advantage. PROS: Will never rust VERY easy to know how much liquid is left VERY Lightweight and small multiple options to fill the tank Filling it at a station has all taxes in the fuel price, no sales tax on this tank Avoids state sales taxes for B-R tanks (if your state has 'em) you own it - no valve leaks, dents, or other problems people have had tank exchange programs (leaks, dents, etc) cost savings GREEN alternative to throwaway gas bottles and legal to refill for propane appliances then transport. CONS: Tanks have a 12-20 year life, but if well cared for can last longer (b-r factors that in to justify their exchange pricing) Must find a nearby gas station with propane or RV park, etc. If you are deciding on buying into B-R or this, it costs slightly more up front which usually pays back on the second fill Ultimately if you use propane when camping, this cylinder coupled with coleman's adapters will pay for itself on the second filling versus buying the "throw-away" cans. It's also a great "backup" tank if you are barbecueing and your tank runs dry before the meal is done!.

This review is from: Lite Cylinder LC-10-00 10 Pound Composite Lightweight Non-Corrosive White See-Through Propane Tank (Misc.)
The guy at the refill station was flabbergasted: "you can see the level!"This was to replace an aluminum cylinder on a boat. It is not exactly the same size, maybe 1/2" taller, but it worked for me.

Sleek, light, see through fuel level, but...,

This review is from: Lite Cylinder LC-10-00 10 Pound Composite Lightweight Non-Corrosive White See-Through Propane Tank (Misc.)
The 10 lb Lite Cylinder is everything it says it is. I had two difficulties using it, however, with some standard propane accessories designed to allow connections from a bulk tank to camping appliances (In my case, a coleman stove and lantern.). The first was a propane tree - a device that allows hoses to connect to a rigid vertical pipe that attaches (clamps) to the cyclinder's outer casing. I was unable to attache a Century Tool Distribution Tree (30 In, 3 Outlets) because of the curved shape of the upper casing. Consequently, I decided to buy a Century Propane T Connector which allows two hoses to be connected to the propane cylinder and connect my appliances that way. Unfortunately, the "channel" on the upper casing where the T Connector attaches to the cylinder is so narrow that the connector cannot be fully tightened into the tank. After trying to no avail to find a fitting that would extend out beyong the casing so I could attach the T Connector, I decided to just use a hacksaw blade to trim the plastic casing enough to let the connector to attach. It works fine now.
