I first used this lamp at work. I thought the light that it produced was excellent for its size. The one at work came from Ikea. I discovered that Ikea discontinued this model. The new Telelite Halogen table lamp is the same one that Ikea used to sell. I highly recommend this lamp.

I have another lamp that is very similar to this one. It's older, but very, very, similar to this lamp, I'm sure it's the same manufacturer. I wanted to buy another lamp that matched the lamp I already owned. The lamp I previously owned has lived in my kitchen for years as "something more than a night-light" so I could add some light to the counter top when I was building a meal. The old lamp, which I had for say, 12 years, was definitely built to higher standards than the light I'm reviewing here. It had light-bulb guards, stronger construction on the telescopic arms, and "basically" an overall heavier, or sturdier feel. I forget how much I paid for the old lamp, but it wasn't very much, $12 - $15.

The new lamp, that I'm reviewing here, cost me over $30. The new lamp's construction is obviously a cheaper grade. The telescoping arms that allow you to raise and lower the lamp, are weaker, by a significant margin. The new lamp has a small rod that extends down from the lamp, so you can adjust the direction of light, the old lamp does not have this feature. The new lamp has reoriented the switch slightly, which I believe is a mistake. The old switch placement was more convenient for my purposes as it was facing more toward the user, whereas the new lamp has placed the switch atop the semi-spherical base. All in all, the new lamp is constructed of far cheaper quality and craftsmanship, and the design changes between the two versions make no sense. The light output and range is about the same.

To sum this up, I believe that the cost of the LS-331 at $34, is far too high. Tripling the cost of a product (even if it *is* over a period of 12 years) by 300% while simultaneously reducing the quality of a product does not reflect the commitment to the customer or the design philosophy that I look for in a product vendor. As a matter of fact, it reflects a symptom that is endemic in the U.S., by many manufacturers.

I Suggest that you NOT to purchase this lamp.

This lamp is very poorly constructed. The plastic base is too light, the light isn't bright enough, and the price is very high for this poor quality Chinese-made product. Returning the lamp has also been a nightmare.
