I got this optical drive for a screaming deal at a local retailer, only $13 after rebate! I'm very happy with it, it came as the complete package! The box included installation screws, a SATA cable, documentation, and NERO 9 Essentials burner software. The drive was well packaged, and works great!

This drive feels better built and more durable than most I'm come across, and it's fairly quiet, even when reading or burning at high speeds. It comes covered with a standard one year warranty and includes quick installation instructions in English, French, and Spanish. The more detailed User Guide is in English only though.

Thus far I've used it with Windows 7 64-bit and Xubuntu Linux, both had suitable drivers by default and the drive works wonderfully with both operating systems. The box advertises support for Vista, XP, and Server 2003 as well.

About the only thing this drive is missing, possibly, is Lightscribe label making technology; I never use it on my drives that do support it though, so no big deal to me.

To sum it up, this is an excellent drive for a great value! It's the complete package and easy to setup.

This review is not so much about the Liteon drive as it is about how Amazon is selling it. Upon receiving the drive, I looked at the tamper seal and saw that there were 2 seals on the box, one on top of the other. Looking at the seals with a magnifying lens, I saw that the inner seal was broken. I immediately suspected that this drive was a return or refurb. I decided to give it a try anyway. My suspicions were true. The drive was defective since it would not mount any disc I inserted -- so I am returning it. This drive is advertised as being new but Amazon is shipping refurb/return units. Shame on you Amazon!

This drive was a snap to install in my Windows 7 machine. Slide it in, put in a couple of screws, connect the power and data cables and turn on the PC and you're up and running. Win 7 recognized the drive immediately. No magic, no mystery. Comes with the SATA power cable and Nero 8, too.

You can pay a lot more for a burner, but you can't beat the quality or speed of Liteon drives. This is my second Liteon drive, my first drive is over three years old and is still working great!

The unit was packaged properly and once shipped was received undamaged.
Installed in new build as main DVD burner. Plugged in powered up with not a hitch.
Windows 7 runs this unit fine. No need to install Nero's enclosed software so fare 7's media center is functioning fine.

This burner is fast! I was getting write errors and wasted four discs before I realized this burner was faster than my computer could handle ( I have an ollllld Dell ), so I set the burn speed to just under the max for my discs and it works like a charm. It is noisy, though, but I didn't buy it to play DVDs so anyone who complains about that-----suck it up! This thing performs.

UPDATE:
Well, just over a year and hundreds of burns and this thing self destructed. The belt for the drawer snapped and it froze. Went though the windows toubleshooter and tied to update the driver to no avail. When I restarted the computer the unit's light came on and never went out. Had to pop it out and put in an old e-machine drive.

Not really going to say anything disparaging based on one unit, but I would recommend an extended warranty just in case. I am, however, lowering my rating based on long term performance.

Update 2: All of you desparaging idiots that thought I was complaining about the unit you obviously didn't really read the review. My comparison was with an old emachine drive that was quite a few years old and I recommended an extended warranty if at all possible. PS I replaced the belt and still frozen.

Purchased this Liteon 24x to be added to the computer Iam using now. Very easy setup, fit perfectly. It copies better than the one I have in my HP now. That one is an HP Dvd and The Liteon runs circles around the HP dvd. I love this so much I ordered 5 more for Xmas presents for my son's and daughters. This is an excellent dvd and so far no problems, except 1, I'am not use to getting done so fast recording items. Now I have to be by the computer to get the next item recorded. If you have a chance, buy this item. No cons on this, all PROS>
