I was first introduced to this trash can through a baby diaper web site, and it really worked great through our first child's diaper-wearing years. I never noticed any smell in the room, the seal is so good on this trash can (we did go through diapers fast enough that early on we were doing laundry every 2-3 days; later when poops could be dumped out into the toilet we did laundry every 3-4 days; but the ammonia smell of urine can be chokingly intense, and it never invaded the room). Other trash cans have "fresheners" or charcoal things to keep the odor down - I feel like this trashcan was just made so well that it really didn't need it. The pail inside made it a breeze to carry dirty diapers downstairs to the laundry machines. The pail is sturdy plastic and was also easy to clean. The whole set up looks practically as good today as it did 3.5 years ago!

We just bought a new one for the new baby's arrival, but only because we've started using the old one to handle the cloth rags we use in place of paper towels (which is handles with just as much grace as it handled diapers - I can keep this trashcan in the dining room and there is NO odor). Love it!

The good news is that we used our 20L kitchen trash can (white) for 11 years, 1 year over the warranty period. If I had remembered the warranty, I would have replaced it years earlier. Finally, it hurt my wife's foot and she made me replace it.

I compared the new and old versions and I don't see any changes.

The bad news is that the foot pedal broke several times and I had to repair it with epoxy glue. The pedal is a piece of plastic attached with very small screws to a thin aluminum pedal. The metal bends, the screws break, and the plastic cracks. Finally, plastic parts surrounding the pedal broke and I can no longer repair it. It sort-of-worked for the last few years, when used gingerly (not by me) by a petite person (not me) and cursed at it in Dutch (a language I don't speak). I bent over and lifted the lid, and cursed in English.

None of this is surprising since I cook a lot and throw things out while dashing around the kitchen in size 13 shoes. But floor pedals are MEANT to be stomped on!

Guys should look for a garbage can made from stronger materials. For the price, we deserve it.
