Simple & Enjoyable,
This review is from: Literary Feasts: Inspired Eating from Classic Fiction (Hardcover)
I purchased this book on a whim from a local bookstore and enjoyed it immensely. As a book lover and a food lover this book elegantly outlines some of the most memorable feasts found within classic literature. More of a coffee table book than an actual novel, this book is not only entertaining but enlightening about the interactions and deeper meanings attributed to the feasts within classic literature.

Literary Feasts: Inspired Eating from Classic Fiction
I bought this book as a gift for a writer friend who loves to cook, but I will not bother giving this MOST FRUSTRATING tome to them. I expected recipes, however, this pompous assemblage with its misleading title seemed more like some highbrow and pretentious compilation of reminders of foodstuffs and meals mentioned in various books put together just to impress someone's tonier friends with their reading list. No recipes, not even half the fun it could have been. I gave it 2 stars, as the graphics are lovely, as is the cover, but the content was an exersise in snooty pretention. Don't waste your money unless you are looking for a guide to put together a party on a theme - - this will help somewhat with that, but you will still need to ferret out the recipes from somewhere else. This was a major disappointment. I got more from THE BOOK LOVER'S COOKBOOK! The Book Lover's Cookbook: Recipes Inspired by Celebrated Works of Literature, and the Passages That Feature Them |
