Editorial Reviews

Review

I am so excited to use it. I have been teaching Romeo and Juliet for six years (almost 36 classes) and this guide has given me fresh material that is spot on with the standards I must teach. I can't wait to see what creative responses my kids come up with. You have removed so much extra work from my busy schedule! And I LOVE how your guides don't overlap information so I really get my money's worth. --Skittl4702 via TeachersPayTeachers.com

About the Author

Secondary Solutions® is the endeavor of a high school English teacher who could never seem to find appropriate materials to help her students master the necessary concepts at the secondary level. She grew tired of spending countless hours researching, creating, writing, and revising lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes, tests and extension activities to motivate and inspire her students, and at the same time, address those ominous content standards! Before the inception of Secondary Solutions®, materials that were available were either juvenile in nature, skimpy in content, or were moderately engaging activities that did not come close to meeting the content standards on which her students were being tested. Frustrated and tired of trying to get by with inappropriate, inane lessons, she finally decided that if the right materials were going to be available to her and other teachers, she was going to have to make them herself! Mrs. Bowers set to work to create one of the most comprehensive and innovative Literature Guide sets on the market. Joined by a middle school teacher with 21 years of secondary school experience, Secondary Solutions® began, and has matured into a specialized team of intermediate and secondary teachers who have developed for you a set of materials unsurpassed by all others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Something I Can Really USE!, September 22, 2005
This review is from: Literature Guide: Romeo and Juliet (Secondary Solutions LLC) (Perfect Paperback)
I have taught Romeo and Juliet for three consecutive years now, and have tried every bit of material out there to reach my students. I can finally say I have found THE literature unit for Romeo and Juliet. I have been so pleased with the response from my students, who are actually UNDERSTANDING the play through the numerous activities this guide has. And they love it! I cannot recommend this guide enough...I will certainly buy from this company again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Organized, February 17, 2008

This review is from: Literature Guide: Romeo and Juliet (Secondary Solutions LLC) (Perfect Paperback)
This is a well organized literature guide, but my eighth graders were a little too advanced for some of the activities. There were fun and innovative activities, I would highly recommend it since it does trigger some higher order thinking skills if used cleaverly. Teachers will appreciate the well organized and easy to understand worksheets and activities. If you have an inclusion class or one in which the students (or teachers)are new to Shakespeare, I would definitely recommend this guide.

Gosh - I didn't expect the author to respond to my review. Apparently there are two editions of this lit unit, and I somehow got the first edition (used, no less - don't ask how I got a used one through Amazon). I stand by my first review of the original edition (it has a maroon cover with what looks like folds of velvet fabric and is 52 pages long). It's still collecting dust on my bookcase.

HOWEVER, I discovered that there is a newer edition (it has a similar color scheme, but has flames on it and is 150 pages long). That version is vastly superior with much more usable material. I have several literture guides from Secondary Solutions, all of which I use and recommend, and I am happy to recommend the second edition of the Romeo and Juliet lit guide as well.

Original Review: Don't waste your money on this one, teachers. There's ONE activity for an entire act. That's it. *eye roll* Surfing the web results in more usable activities. The only thing I actually used was the pre-reading/sonnet material.
