Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

How does Harry feel about being left behind when the other students go to Hogsmeade?

Why doesn't Azkaban need walls to keep in prisoners?

What would you say to someone in a Howler if you were really angry with him or her?

With probing, thought-provoking questions like these, the literature guide for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban encourages students to explore the complexities of J.K. Rowling's extraordinarily popular Harry Potter series. The lightweight 18-page booklet is divided into chapter groupings, with summaries, discussion questions, activities, and lessons in comprehension and recall, vocabulary, and themes. Cross-curricular activities in literature, science, art, math, and more guide children to discover the origins (and significance) of Professor Remus Lupin's name, assign monetary values to each of the coins Harry Potter and his wizard friends use, and design signs for the shops in Hogsmeade. Reproducible handouts and a colorful poster provide more educational opportunities for educators who choose to seize this huge, unique teaching moment for their students. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide to HP3!!!, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Literature Guide: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Grades 4-8) (Paperback)
I found this book to be a very wonderful guide to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I didn't quite understand HP3 until I read this book. Then it all clicked! I read this book, then read HP3 again, and it made so much more sense. I have loaned it to many other readers, and they all agree. It told word meanings and about the author. I suggest that any true Harry Potter fan get this guide!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the Money!, September 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Literature Guide: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Grades 4-8) (Paperback)
I am a homeschooling mother who bought this, to use with the books while reading with my girls. I develop my own cirriculum for school, and I was so excited that someone had made these study guides, so I wouldn't have to. However, this book was extremely disappointing to say the least. It is only 13 pages long with only two pages dedicated to any 5-6 chapters. The 5-10 questions, which were dedicated to the 5-6 chapters were silly, and had no depth to them. There were no other usable parts to the book. There are only 2-3 reproducibles, but they are not worth the cost of the paper to print them. Being an avid Harry Potter lover, as are my girls, this was extremely disappointing. Don't waste your money on it. You would do better to make up your own questions about each chapter and find some free stuff online.
