If you are interested in historical fiction books, this is the book for you. It really grabs your attention and really keeps you interested. This book is full of many surprises that you won't expect. It has good morals and is entertaining for all ages. It reads quickly and is just a good book. About the post-slavery treatment and is a great book to read in the classroom. Deffinitely a thumbs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read this book right now., May 28, 1999

I had to read this book for school and I really think more people should. In this book you really see what the differences between black and white people are. The reason I appreciated this book is that it gives you a clear view on how black people were treated (even now there're still people who treat black people badly). I think that you can decrease racism by showing people how it is to be discriminated. By reading such a book you can show them this and I think you'll have to start at an early age with this. The reason: children of now are the future of you and me. All in all I recommend this book to anyone who's interested in this subject or has to read a book (for example for school) about this subject.
