I had to purchase this book for a dual credit English class during my senior year of high school, and I really enjoyed exploring it outside of class as well as in. As other reviewers mentioned, An Introduction to Reading and Writing is not simply a bunch of literary mumbo-jumbo by a self-important editor. This is an anthology of short stories and poems by a wide variety of authors, interspersed with small sections dedicated to single authors like Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, and Edgar Allan Poe. As an English major and aspiring writer, this was an invaluable collection of work that I have referred to many times over the past two years--both for the wonderful stories that are included and the advice on general grammar rules. My only disappointment with this textbook was that, because my class was dual credit and therefore required to cover senior English and freshman college English in one semester, my teacher did not have sufficient time to teach this entire book. After graduation, I definitely went back to this to read what I had missed. For those of you who are required to purchase this text, you will not be disappointed--especially at Amazon's discounted price. When I purchased this textbook brand new in the fall of 2008, it was about $150. Need I say more?

Without this book I would not have been able to even pass my Eng. 102 class. It has alot of good stories in it that helped me with my writing process.

It helps to have an awesome teacher like I did, but even then this book will not fail. The stories are all quite varied and included are student essays to help you out. I really enjoyed reading the stories this book had to offer.

This was a good investment for me. i could not find this book anywhere for under 100 dollers and was lucky to find one here for a good price and it was in awesome condition. The book took a little while to get here that was the only problom i had. If you know you need a book you should order it right away so it can get here and you dont fall to far behind in the class. i love this book and the condition it is in. i recomend ordering from here, i was satisfied with my purchase.

The only issue I had with the order was that it didn't come with the
cd that usually come with textbooks, but I really haven't needed it so far.

This book was necessary for Comp.2. There is a large variety of different types and styles of literary works. This seem to allow the professors a wide lattitude in choosing works that they feel are most appropriate for the lesson that they wish to convey. There seems to be a large range in what works are chosen from this book for further analysis. The other students that I have asked about this course and book all used different selections from this book.
