I originally bought this type of system through another brand name (sold at Home Depot) and was very disappointed. The strip went up fine, lights clicked in easily, etc....but the power cord was only 8 feet long with the option of placing a switch somewhere along that 8 foot distance. I would have needed to use an extension cord. But the deal breaker for me was the "buzz". The transformer box at the end of the plug buzzed so loud I could hear it in the next room which made that system unusable for me. This Valo system has an 8' power strip that goes from the lights to the dimmer switch then ANOTHER 8 feet power cord to the plug. With a total of 16 feet there was no more need for an extension cord. But the best part...NO BUZZ!!! This system is quiet and extremely easy to install. And for those who think that it's not bright enough pay attention to the description. This is a set of 3 20-watt lamps. They are not meant for intense lighting. But the accent affect is outstanding. And since the light strip is bendable it can go amost anywhere. Another huge bonus it has over the other system is that the power cord and strip (to the switch) has it's own adhesive backing. The other system I picked up (from another store) did not have adhesive on the cord so I would have had to buy casing tube to fit over it. This Valo system has everything you need and looks great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for apartment living, November 15, 2005
By
I bought this system from Bed, Bath & Beyond for $25 on clearance and was blown away at the ease of installation, the beauty once up on the wall, and the spotlighting it provided above my dining area. My living room (in Manhattan) has no lighting, and angling these lamps on the dining table have made the entire room come alive. The style goes incredibly well with all our coffee colored furniture and modern pieces. Since we couldn't go any electric work in our apt., this adhesive system is PERFECT!

I purchased this light set directly from the manufacturer in early december 2004. It arrived in time for New Years. The installation was fairly straight forward. Locate a suitable wall area and clean off any dust or grime. Run a line with a Level to use as a guide for the Track. Read the Instructions TWICE! Once you remove the protective backing from the track adhesive, you only have ONE CHANCE to get it applied correctly. It does not come off the wall! The lights and power connections are snap on, making the total install time less than 10 minutes. The Lighting effect is great for reading and area illumination. On thing I found is that the power cord and switch get VERY Warm after an hour's on time. I don't know if this is a problem yet as I have referred it to Lite's Now for advise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy installation - marginal quality, May 17, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The installation is easy enough as long as you follow the directions and are careful with the adhesive strips. The quality is a little on the low side, with the light fixtures and optional frosted shades (purchased separately) all being constructed out of fairly light plastic. The lamp assemblies feel fragile and the flexible necks don't seem to stay in place too well, so be careful when making adjustments. The dimmer switch is adequate, but larger than it needs to be and also feels cheap.

It works as described, but if I had it to do over again, I probably would spend a few more dollars and find something of higher quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great lights, September 5, 2007

These lights are great, easy to install in any room. Its too bad they have been discontinued and are getting hard to find. The only odd thing about them is that sometimes the switch gets a little hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's how to attach to a popcorn ceiling:, March 14, 2007
This is an aweseome, easy to use product. I'm a stay-home mom and consultant and I installed this myself on a popcorn ceiling. Now, it won't adhere to the popcorn ceiling and it clearly states this in the instructions. So, what do you do?

-First, buy a long piece of wood that will accomodate as much of the lighting strip as you want on your ceiling.

-Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy the smallest heavyweight "toggles" which are strong, strong anchors that will support weight of something hanging from a ceiling (unlike mollies, etc.)

-Buy a drill bit that will drill a hole big enought to insert the toggles into the ceiling. (Look for the bit size on the toggle package.)

- Drill 2 small holes into your wooden strip for the toggle screws to fit through (one on either end of the strip).

-Push the screws through the wood.

-Place the toggle on the screw.

-Use the large drill bit and drill holes in the ceiling where you want the toggles.

-Push the toggle into the ceiling and let the spring open up on the other side of the hole.

-Hold the piece of wood and use a screwdriver to tighten the screws so that the wood becomes flush with the ceiling.

-So far, this whole process MIGHT take you 10 minutes.

-Once the wood is secured, stand on a chair or ladder and mount the valo strip to the wood. (DO NOT MOUNT IT AHEAD OF TIME. YOU CAN'T DRILL THROUGH IT.)

- Follow the rest of the instructions to connect the lights and cord.

It's simple and looks great! Hint: the narrowest piece of wood looks the best with the track. The lighter-weight wood the better. It is simply a surface for the track to adhere to and does not need to be structurally that thick. Something the thickness and structure of a yard-stick would do perfectly.

:)Meredith

Although it costs $20 more, the original version with the dimmer and longer (8') track is the better deal. Still under $50.00

Don't try to install this on a popcorn ceiling. Even after taking off popcorn and cleaning an area, I still can't get the track to stick.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good design, February 20, 2007
It's very good design and easy to install. Not the highest quality, but it works for the money. I wish it can have an option to be able to put more light fixtures in to provide more lighting or higher watts. It looks morden. I'm still waiting for the other kinds I ordered to ship. For some reasons, it takes a long time to get the orders in.
