This lighting is just what I needed

Maybe the previous reviewer didn't read the instructions... I put my kit up in about 20 minutes and I love it. It was more than I hoped for. The track is so thin it almost disappears. They had a special trick in the instructions to get it aligned straight using a thread and two pins. The hardwire cover is a cool design too. Everything snapped right together and the fixtures, while made of plastic are so minimal they show off the light, not the fixture. I noticed the transformer is the same brand and type my electrician installed on an expensive pendant fixture and the transformer alone cost me $40! I purchased two more kits at my local hardware store and now I am a pro. I painted one track to match my wall, it disappeared. I highly recommend this product but read the instructions cover to cover.

I got these track lights after seeing them in my friend's home after she installed them. I had been searching the lighting stores, but everything else is so obtrusive looking. These lights and strip are much thinner, paintable, plus the transformers can be hidden away--mine are in the attic. The cost is reasonable and LitesNow(Westinghouse) is a reliable company. As with any new product, read the instructions, heed the warnings and follow directions. My only wish is that they could be a little brighter. They have been in constant use in my family room for over a year.

Unless you're desperate to have low voltage lighting, do not get this product. I bought it impulsively because I wanted to use halogen lighting on this one picture in my living room. Sounded good, instant installation meant instant gratification. Plus it was cheap, 20 bucks on sale here. Well, what I got were sort of as advertised, the self adhesive track, lights, and the transformer. However, the picture doesn't show just how cheap the track or lights are until you hold them in your hands. The installation was not as easy as it advertised because the track was extemely sticky(I guess that was the point for an "easy" tooless install) which made it impossible to do a complete straight line. After I finally slapped the track onto my wall, I attempted to clip on the lights which required quite a bit of force as the clamps weren't flexible at all. In the process, I cracked two of the lovely frosted plastic shades. After about forty minutes, I plugged it in and there was light... for about 15 minutes and then the transformer shut itself down. So I tinkered and tinkered and finally realized the transformer basically died. Since it was so cheap, I decided to just chuck it all away. So I used a dental floss and a blow dryer to remove the track as recommended but the track simply refused to budge. I ended up just tearing it along with chunks of my drywall off. All in all, it wasn't a fun experience and learned that yet again I really did get what I paid for.

I bought a set to install over a series of paintings only because the alternatives seemed so much more expensive and required professional installation. I found the track hard to handle. It would be near-impossible to install without another person to help. The worst part of this system is the cheap light fixtures. The metal tabs that snap over the track are fragile and unforgiving. I accidentally bent one trying to install the light, and when I tried to bend it back it flew off. Project ruined. Don't waste your money! You'd be better off eating baloney sandwiches for a week and paying to have a QUALITY fixture installed.

So long as you purchase these lights with the phrase "you get what you pay for" in mind, you'll be very happy with them. I snagged two sets of these lights, have had them both burning for several hours a day and have had no problems. They work very well and are extremely easy to install so long as you have a helper and take your time. Someone to assist by holding the other end of the track straight will be very useful. If you don't have a helper then I would suggest using a screw or nail to hold one end of the track to the surface. Don't expect them to look elegant (they look like a set of $25 lights), but they aren't devoid of aesthetic value either--they look good, not great. The track is unobtrusive and nearly disappears against a surface of similar color. When putting the fixtures onto the track, take care to put the side of the light without the push tab on first. Then depress the tab, which widens the base of the fixture so it can easily be pushed up onto the other side of the track. My only gripe thus far is that the bulbs are somewhat cumbersome to get seated in the base. It sometimes takes a few tries to get the pins aligned with their holes.

If you want a good choice for some track lights under $50, these are a good place to start. If need better options such as long throw spots, high power floods and other goodies--keep looking. I give this product 4 stars simply because there are indeed better options available, but the price makes these a great value (they even include the bulbs, how rare is that?). As for now, I'm off to buy two more sets for the bathroom and maybe a couple more sets to drop some multicolor MR16 LED bulbs in for mood lighting...

I installed a set over my kitchen sink. I had no problems with the wiring as some others have, and the set really looked nice. I especially liked that I could run the cord down the wall to an available power outlet. Well, it worked fine for about 9 months, then the transformer died.

Out of warranty, I emailed Westinghouse from their web site. I never received a reply and now I see that Westinghouse apparently no longer makes this item. No replacement transformer/switch available either. No small wonder why.

So if you want something to throw up quickly to sell your house, this would certainly add some appeal to unsuspecting buyers. If you need it to last you any amount of time at all, forget it.

Now I get to try to take the wiring off the kitchen wall. After reading other buyer's stories, I don't look forward to this step either.

The major omission in the explaination is that the very stiff and curled power track, uses adheasive to attach to the ceiling. If you happen to have a textured ceiling, your out of luck. It also requires attaching to an existing light fixture power box and offers no way to power it from an wall outlet. While there are places where it will install and function, I'm guessing that there are a lot more where it won't.

The overall quality is not bad, it is the basic engineering that I have problem with.

"These lights are stylish" "perfect lighting" I like the dimmer switch and the lights looks fantastic in my kitchen"! The lights are bendable to aim them in the area you what light. Easy to install! It took two sets of hands to install because I needed a helper to put the light up on the ceiling.

I bought my first set two years ago for my kitchen to go above my sink. Puts out a lot of light and they look great. I get so many compliments from my house guest.
Now two years later, I'm buying another set to put on the other side of my kitchen.

I bought this item last year. Installation was fine - but then I installed the track behind a support beam in the ceiling so I didn't have to worry about the absolute straight line. I do suggest to smooth out the track since it comes coiled. I even went so far as to weight it down with books to help relax the coil. I think this helped tremendously. Didn't have any problem when I went to put it up.

I've been using it since last fall and it is still going fine. It lights an enclosed area over my dresser much better than I thought possible. I will say though that I don't leave the lights on for any long amount of time - only as long as I need to have use of that area. Maybe this is important in getting longer usage out of product?

At any rate - this is a somewhat low quality product. If you keep that in mind when you picks it's application in your home I think it is an excellent product.

Just had an electrician wire one set up in an attic closet and have purchased two more sets; one to be added inside the same closet, another to go over my washer & dryer in the basement. They have a pinkish glow but seem to do the job nicely. The electrician said that two sets would not both fit inside one j-box so he will have to purchase a larger size box which will take a bit more headroom in my closet. They do burn a bit hot so be sure to have lots of clearance when using.
