I did some research on the Litey Leash site and found the customer support email.

The lighting in our neighborhood is very poor so when I take my dog out at night I know that I can be seen walking my dog.

Lasted about two weeks and now wires are sticking out everywhere and only one light works (closest to the handle).

I bought this leash at Walmart (but would rather say I got it on Amazon as I hate Walmart) on a whim. I need to buy one for every friend with a dog. I have a small Golden retriever who is kind of skittish. I started using the Litey leash when we moved to Maryland. It gets dark so early and she was kind of afraid of the dark. the leash gives her a little light to walk by at night and gives both of us the confidence to walk in the dark near roads. I have so many people stop me and ask where I got the leash, but mostly I have drivers holler at me from their cars "I LOVE YOUR LEASH!!" I think they appreciate that they can see me on the road up ahead. I try to tell everyone who asks the name of the leash and I hope I start a trend in my neighborhood. It's the best gift you can give someone who walks their dog at night. It provides safety not only for the dog and owner, but for the cars passing by. Its the Product that I say, "I wish I had thought of it" and I hope the person who invented it makes a ton.

1 complaint - I wish it was a 6 foot leash instead of 5 ft. that one extra food really makes a difference. I know it would cost more money, but if you come up with the option for a longer leash, I will snag it up in a second.

UPDATE 11/22/2013: I wrote this review almost exactly one year ago today. I still use the lighty leash every night and I have never had to replace the battery yet. Still going strong. Now, I'm pretty easy on the leash. My dog doesn't tug a lot. But I am in a new neighborhood and I still have people stop me or hollar out their car windows about how cool my leash is. I still wish it had one extra foot on it, and I am not a fan of the plastic handle. I wish it had a rubber or some non-slick material. It's a hard handle to hold when wearing gloves. very slippery. But all in all, I have been happier with this product then a lot of things I have bought over the last year. Thanks inventor of the Lighty Leash.

I bought this from my local walmart. It works great for night walks. The battery has lasted longer than I thought it would about 10 hours so far.(I did not have high hopes because of the price) Also it holds up to some pulling I have a 60+lb weimaraner and his light tugs did not do any damage so far. I don't know how it would hold up to heavy pulling. Also it works good even in cold temps. There are 2 down falls. First the cord is very stiff. If you have a small dog it may not work so well. Mine trys to stay loopy so when my dog trys to walk close the leash can bow up. It does get better the more you use it but it can be a little pain. Second the handle is a very smooth plastic. If you do not keep your have in the loop it can slip out of your hand. Happened to me once even with my hand in the loop. I was wearing gloves and my dog saw a squirl at the park. Luckly he came back when I called but it could have been bad if there was a car around at the time.

I have an 80 Lb black lab that loves to go for night walks. Needless to say he is not easily seen by passing cars (and doesn't always pay attention to traffic rules). This leash is great, we live in a wooded area and now we can definitely be seen by cars coming around the corner. Safety features aside, It makes me and the dog more excited to go for a walk because its just plain fun! It's way more convenient than bringing a flashlight in one had and trying to control the dog on the leash. These also make great gifts and I have purchased several for friends as gifts.

Really loved it when it worked. I felt safer at night walking my little Yorkie.
Pros: Very nice illumination at dusk or night.
Two modes of use, flashing or always on.
Easy on the batteries.

Cons: Leash is very stiff. My little Yorkie at full "tug" could barely straighten it out.
Extremely fragile. On a routine walk around the neighborhood it flickered off once, and never came on again.
Poor build and a bit short.

I would not recommend this leash to anyone for any pet.

I've been using this leash for several months for those times when I walk our Cattle Dog at night, and having a lighted leash makes me feel safer. I already have a cap with 5 LED lights in the brim, so being able to see where we're walking is no problem, but it still left my dog and me invisible to traffic coming from the back or side. This leash solves that problem. One night when I did not have my cell phone, my worrywart husband drove around looking for us and he said he could see the lighted leash from several blocks away.

My reason for giving this 4 stars rather than 5 is because, although the Litey Leash is rated for 90 pounds, it looked to me like our 80 pound dog was putting too much of a strain on it, especially when she would pull on the leash. Not wanting to take a chance that it might snap and she could end up in traffic, I ordered another one of these to use together. I've found that using two Litey Leashes together at the same time works much better, plus it gives me greater peace of mind. Now I'm thinking about getting a third one so I can braid them all together to make one really sturdy leash.

I like the fact that the Litey Leash is only 5 feet long, because I want to keep our fur-baby close when we're out walking and jogging. For a small dog, though, this leash probably wouldn't be long enough. Again, if your dog is hefty, or if your furry friend likes to lunge and pull, I recommend getting two and using them together, just to be on the safe side -- or three, each in a different color, if you want to look like a walking Christmas tree, LOL.

PS: Just so you'll know, although I definitely feel that my dog is much safer when I use two of these leashes together, it is awkward trying to hang on to two leash handles at once.
