Initial Impressions of Battery Performance (and Shipping),

I'm posting only initial impressions here since I just received this battery. (Note: see updates below initital review)I ordered the battery via Amazon.com from seller eznsmart. Paid $37 plus $1.99 for expedited shipping. The battery was ordered on August 22 and received on August 25 (shipping from California to Texas). That's great shipping time for a non-Prime item. I mention shipping time in this review simply to offset the other reviewer who expressed displeasure at long shipping times and gave the battery poor marks because of that. I had no trouble with the shipping. I have to say I never quite understand it when buyers give a product bad marks just because of shipping delays -- that kind of thing should be a mark against the seller but not the product. Upon receiving the battery, I charged it up fully and fired up the laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300, not known for long run time on a single charge, even with OEM batteries). I allowed the laptop to drain the battery down fully, following the initial conditioning procedures recommended by the seller in the small instructions booklet that came with the battery. I timed the battery drain until a forced a shutdown and I got 3 hours 55 minutes out of the first charge (very good for the Dell Inspiron 9300). Theoretically, the drain time ought to take longer after the first few charges of the battery, so my guess is that I'll easily be able to get over 4 hours use per charge, depending on the nature of the use. But, almost 4 hours on the first charge seems very good. I'll have to re-evaluate after I've been using the battery for a a significant period of time and see how charge time holds up then. For now, I'm giving the battery a solid review and a 5-star rating based on price and initial performance. If performance lags in the near term, I'll update my review with that info. UPDATE 11/12/2010 Unfortunately, my wife has the laptop at her workplace and I can't measure battery drain performance now. However, I did battery drains in it a handful of times over the first month after we installed the battery, and it looked like I was getting about 4 hours use each time. I didn't want to continue to *fully* drain the battery (not a good thing to do) but measured it until I got a 10-percent-remaining warning indication on the battery. Readers should also note that if they purchase a new laptop battery and leave the laptop plugged in all the time, that can have adverse effects on the life of the battery. Laptops should definitely NOT be left plugged in all the time, and my understanding that such practices diminish life in laptop batteries in general, often leading to impressions of "bad" batteries when in actuality bad battery maintenance practices may be to blame. UPDATE 07/09/2011 After almost a year, I was able to test the battery again. Starting with a full charge, I ran the laptop until battery was fully discharged and the laptop shut down. I got 3 hours 50 minutes runtime. Based on that, I'm keeping the 5-star rating on this battery and think it's well deserved.

My battery only lasted 6 months and then no longer held it's charge. I'm lucky if I get 20 minutes now after a full charge.I ordered this battery from a different supplier (New Energy Warehouse). It was sent from China and not the USA (as stated). The battery had no serial number or barcode. There wasn't even a full invoice or guarantee card. I recommend to send back any battery which comes without a serial number and full invoice. Simply claim through Amazon within 90 days of ordering if you can get no answer from the seller.
